🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY BULLETIN🚨

Temporary Fire Company Closings (Brownouts)

Engine Co. 7, located at the Pine St. firehouse, has been shut down for the day shift, 8am-6pm. This means the Highlands neighborhoods are currently without their immediate, dedicated fire suppression and emergency medical response.

In the event of an emergency, please anticipate increased wait times as our response will be coming from further away.

The Fire Department is an essential component of the public’s safety, and in our line of work, seconds matter. If you are ever in need of our help, call 911, we will ALWAYS show up.

As the colder months approach, retiree Larry Finn is back at it organizing the annual Winter Coat Giveaway! Everyone in our community deserves to stay warm and bundled up this season. If you or someone you know needs a winter coat, please stop by—we have all sizes available!

Today, we had some visitors stop by the Civic Center fire station from the Frederick Assad Abisi Adult Education Center. Our companies gave the students a tour of the station and showed off our apparatus and equipment. Thank you for the visit! We always enjoy connecting with our community.

Yesterday, we had some special visitors from across the pond stop by our headquarters downtown! The President of the Graciosa Island Volunteer Fire Department (Azores, Portugal) came by to get a close look at the operations of a busy big-city department.

The tour was led by FF Nick Faustino—who actually has similar family roots. It was a great opportunity to swap stories about operational realities and realize that, despite the distance, we share a lot of the same challenges and dedication to the job.

Engine Co. 11, located at the Lawrence street fire station, has been shut down for the night shift, 6pm-8am. This means the South Lowell and Sacred Heart neighborhoods are currently without their immediate, dedicated fire suppression and emergency medical response.

In the event of an emergency, please anticipate increased wait times as our response will be coming from further away.

The Fire Department is an essential component of the public’s safety, and in our line of work, seconds matter. If you are ever in need of our help, call 911, we will ALWAYS show up.

Please join us in welcoming three new recruits to the Lowell Fire Department: Andrew Brigham, Ted Diaz, and Jackson Ryder!

Soon, our newest recruits will head to the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow to begin a rigorous 10-week training program. There, they will acquire the critical skills needed to serve our community as members of the fire service.

Upon successful completion, they will earn their Firefighter I & II Certifications and officially become Probationary Firefighters for the City of Lowell, MA.

We wish them the best of luck as they embark on this significant chapter of their careers. Welcome to Local 853, brothers!
