🚜 HARVEST SEASON SAFETY REMINDER 🚔
The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to stay alert and use extra caution on our roadways during harvest season.
🌾 For all motorists:
Put the phone down and avoid distracted driving. Keep your eyes on the road and your attention on driving.
Watch for slow-moving farm equipment, combines, tractors, grain carts, and trucks traveling on roadways.
Be patient when approaching harvest equipment. Give drivers plenty of room and only pass when it is safe and legal to do so.
Be prepared for farm equipment and trucks entering or exiting fields, driveways, and rural roadways.
🚛 For our farmers, equipment operators, and truck drivers:
Keep your attention on the road and watch for approaching traffic.
Before pulling onto a roadway from a field, driveway, or rural access point, take your time and make sure the road is clear in both directions.
Use your turn signals when possible, check your blind spots, and make sure approaching vehicles have enough time and distance to react.
Remember that your equipment and trucks are large and may take extra time and space to accelerate, turn, and maneuver.
Harvest season is a busy time for our agricultural community, and we all share the responsibility of keeping our roads safe. A little extra patience, awareness, and courtesy can help prevent a serious crash.
Let’s look out for one another and make sure everyone gets home safely!
