As we start ICCM24 in Baltimore, Specialty Materials recognizes the advanced research conducted on boron fiber hybrid composites conducted by Imperial College London.
Their work continues to inform on the failure mechanisms of these hashtag under longitudinal compression, describing the process for which boron fibers arrest damaging kink band propagation. As cracks are deflected along the boron/carbon interface, the composite is able to withstand up to 35% higher loads after the initial failure event.
The team will continue demonstration of their work with a presentation at ICCM24 on Friday, August 8 at 9:55AM during the Compressive Failure technical session.
