A major milestone for the submarine fleet. Fairbanks Morse Defense and Hunt Valve Company, Inc. are shipping the first-ever additively manufactured SUBSAFE Level I component: a copper-nickel 2" angled tailpiece built in collaboration with Lincoln Electric Additive Solutions.

SUBSAFE and Level I are among the Navy's most demanding standards, because the parts they govern help bring every submarine home. With the new Navy AM standards, this tailpiece met full Government Contract Quality Assurance (GCQA) compliance from start to finish. Its qualification is backed by underwater explosion shock (UNDEX) testing of a separate additively manufactured tailpiece.

By replacing traditional casting with additive manufacturing, we can cut lead times on critical components, keep maintenance schedules on track, and strengthen the defense industrial base.

Congratulations to Brady O'Brien, Shop Supervisor at our Hunt Valve facility and our latest Everyday Heroes safety winner.

To reach a rooftop storage area, team members would have had to step off an extended scissor lift, creating a serious fall hazard and an OSHA violation.

Brady didn't accept it as "just the way it's done." He brought in a contractor to fabricate and install an OSHA-compliant fixed ladder system. Our team now has a safe, dependable path to the roof.

At FMD, safety comes first. A strong safety culture is built by people who notice a risk, take ownership, and act so every teammate goes home safe. That commitment is what makes our employees everyday heroes.

Fairbanks Morse Defense was honored to welcome Representative John Rutherford (FL-05) to our Jacksonville Service Center last week.

During his visit, we had the opportunity to highlight the critical work performed by our factory-certified technicians in supporting the U.S. Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) fleet homeported at Naval Station Mayport, as well as the Ohio-class submarines based at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia.

We also appreciated the opportunity to discuss the workforce, capacity, and investment challenges facing America’s shipbuilding and ship repair industrial base, and the critical importance of strengthening these capabilities to ensure long-term Navy readiness.

Thank you, Congressman Rutherford, for your interest in these important issues and your continued engagement with the U.S. shipbuilding and ship repair industrial base.

After 321 days away, the carrier and its crew have returned to San Diego following a historic 10-month combat deployment.

Fairbanks Morse Defense honors every Sailor, Marine, and family member whose service and sacrifice made this mission possible.

The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group led the U.S. Navy's role in Operation Epic Fury. The team supported 40 days of major combat operations and then enforced two naval blockades with skill, discipline, and resolve.

Deployments like this show why readiness matters. A ship can only sustain this tempo when its crew is exceptional and its equipment is reliable. Seeing the Abraham Lincoln team return home safely after such a demanding mission reminds every one of us why that work matters.

To the crew and your families: thank you. Enjoy every moment of a well-earned reunion.

We were honored to welcome U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith to our Bird-Johnson Pascagoula facility. She chatted with our team on FMD's lifecycle support to the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, as well as key challenges facing the American industrial base.

The conversation was constructive and wide-ranging, from foundry capacity and workload to potential NDAA language promoting American-manufactured equipment on Navy ships.

Visits like this reinforce a simple truth: a ready Fleet depends on a strong domestic supply chain. Thank you, Senator Hyde-Smith, for your time and your commitment to the men and women we serve.

It was a special honor for FMD CEO George Whittier to speak at the Midwest Aerospace Conference in Rockford, IL. The event marked a turning point for the region's defense industry.

During the conference, the organization announced its rebrand from MAC to MASDA, the Midwest Aerospace & Defense Alliance. The new name recognizes the growing importance of defense in today's increasingly complex and dangerous global environment.

For Fairbanks Morse Defense, this change carries real meaning; the Midwest's skilled workforce, advanced manufacturing, and spirit of cross-sector collaboration are exactly what strengthen the American-made supply chain and keep our sailors and warfighters mission-ready.
