What does it take to balance speed and precision in pick-and-place automation?

In this application, a medical equipment manufacturer required a system that could transport delicate biological samples quickly, without compromising accuracy or control. The solution combined belt-driven MTB actuators in an XYZ gantry with a compact ML actuator for precise gripping, enabling fast, repeatable motion across a wide working area.

Lead accuracy drifts. Backlash creeps in. Repeatability suffers over the life of the machine. For applications where precision can't slip, that's a problem.

PBC Linear is expanding its Miniature Ball Screw line with Ground Ball Screws, machined and then ground for tighter lead accuracy, less backlash, and repeatability that rolled ball screws can't match.

Available soon in 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12mm diameters, in Grade 3 and Grade 5 accuracy, with fl**ged, square, and offset fl**ge nut options.

Happy National Dog Day from everyone at PBC Linear! 🐕

We love dogs around here. They keep the mood light, give people a reason to step away from their desks, and somehow always know when someone's had a rough day. A lot of our team members have brought their dogs in over the years, and those dogs have become as familiar around the office as any coworker.

Cantilevered load causing your plain bearing to bind?

Once a load extends past the 2:1 support ratio, plain bearings start to fight you instead of sliding smoothly. That's a design problem, not a lubrication problem.

PBC Linear's Flanged Linear Ball Bearings solve it. The recirculating ball design handles higher speeds, longer strokes, and overhanging loads that plain bearings can't, with a quiet polymer retainer and standard double seals included at no extra cost.

Round or square fl**ge, standard or double-sized, end or center mount. IDs from 8mm to 50mm, speeds up to 8 m/s, static load capacities up to 166,000 lb. There's a configuration that bolts right in.

Precision mechatronics work for medical, lab, semiconductor, and test and measurement applications rarely stops at selecting a standard component off a spec sheet, but many teams design around one anyway, then run into tolerance, footprint, or duty-cycle issues later.

Most of what PBC Linear builds starts as a standard series and ends up custom to the instrument it's going into. So if you've got a tolerance, footprint, or duty-cycle question you haven't asked yet, now's a good time to ask it.
