Caritas Switzerland is an independent Swiss NGO, engaged in Switzerland and in more than 15 countries worldwide, including Kosovo. Our goal is to fight poverty in a sustainable manner. oots in Kosovo date back to 1999 when we began supporting the reconstruction of war-damaged homes. The present country strategy focuses on income generation, migration and early childhood education. CaCH has been engaged in early childhood education projects since 2002 mostly focusing on initiatives that support the development of children of ages 4-6 and educators of this level. Various actions were and are focusing on classroom equipment and teacher training in pedagogical methodologies with a focus on learning through playing approach. Such actions and approaches resulted as successful, enabled the creation of dynamic learning environments contributing to the development of children and educators and were highly welcomed. CaCH is currently engaged in further improving the quality of pre-primary education and services offered in this level of education. Within the current SHPRESE project, we are providing support to children and educators through teacher training and classroom equipment. In addition, we are also engaged in transferring our approaches, practices, and experiences within the framework of pre-primary education to local institutions. Therefore, we are closely working with the Kosovo Pedagogical Institute, Association of Kosovo Municipalities, Municipal Education Directorates and Faculties of Education in Gjakova, Gjilan, Mitrovica and Prizren. CaCH is also involved in a highly regarded agricultural project by supporting different market actors for increasing production and cultivated areas, improving their incomes from sales of berries, medical aromatic plants and other non-wood forest products, developing their production capacities and build stronger value chains. As part of the programme, farmers were also trained on how to apply modern agricultural production standards, monitored and advised by agricultural experts. This has improved farmers' yields and contributed to making agriculture a viable option as their livelihood. Additionally, the local producer associations and cooperatives were strengthened to deliver professional training, establish advisory and marketing services and become more sustainable. National producer associations are also supported and learned how to lobby and advocate on issues on behalf of their members and to make stronger farmers' voice at the national level. Since 2018, CaCH is active in the field of Migration through the implementation of the project ‘Sustainable Return of Repatriated Persons through Socio-Economic Reintegration’ (SUREP) in close cooperation with national and local partners. CaCH supports psycho-socially, legally and medically to improve the overall welfare of repatriated persons and their families. This support included psychotherapy, assistance in accessing the public service and assistance with schooling and housing. In addition, through economic reintegration activities repatriated persons were supported locally. The project assists the repatriated persons to enroll in on-the-job training, participate in further professional training and provide continuous mentoring services to the ones receiving business start-up grants. Finally, the project supports Municipal Offices of Communities and Return (MOCRs) to strengthen their capacities in dealing with the reintegration of repatriated persons.
