Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo

Caritas Switzerland is an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which has been operating in Kosovo since 1999.

Caritas Switzerland is an independent Swiss NGO, engaged in Switzerland and in more than 15 countries worldwide, including Kosovo. Our goal is to fight poverty in a sustainable manner. To achieve that goal, Caritas Switzerland (CaCH) employs a policy of equity: we support inclusive communities with opportunities for everyone regardless of their ethnic background, group affiliation or gender. Our roots in Kosovo date back to 1999 when we began supporting the reconstruction of war-damaged homes. The present country strategy focuses on income generation, migration and early childhood education. CaCH has been engaged in early childhood education projects since 2002 mostly focusing on initiatives that support the development of children of ages 4-6 and educators of this level. Various actions were and are focusing on classroom equipment and teacher training in pedagogical methodologies with a focus on learning through playing approach. Such actions and approaches resulted as successful, enabled the creation of dynamic learning environments contributing to the development of children and educators and were highly welcomed. CaCH is currently engaged in further improving the quality of pre-primary education and services offered in this level of education. Within the current SHPRESE project, we are providing support to children and educators through teacher training and classroom equipment. In addition, we are also engaged in transferring our approaches, practices, and experiences within the framework of pre-primary education to local institutions. Therefore, we are closely working with the Kosovo Pedagogical Institute, Association of Kosovo Municipalities, Municipal Education Directorates and Faculties of Education in Gjakova, Gjilan, Mitrovica and Prizren. CaCH is also involved in a highly regarded agricultural project by supporting different market actors for increasing production and cultivated areas, improving their incomes from sales of berries, medical aromatic plants and other non-wood forest products, developing their production capacities and build stronger value chains. As part of the programme, farmers were also trained on how to apply modern agricultural production standards, monitored and advised by agricultural experts. This has improved farmers' yields and contributed to making agriculture a viable option as their livelihood. Additionally, the local producer associations and cooperatives were strengthened to deliver professional training, establish advisory and marketing services and become more sustainable. National producer associations are also supported and learned how to lobby and advocate on issues on behalf of their members and to make stronger farmers' voice at the national level. Since 2018, CaCH is active in the field of Migration through the implementation of the project ‘Sustainable Return of Repatriated Persons through Socio-Economic Reintegration’ (SUREP) in close cooperation with national and local partners. CaCH supports psycho-socially, legally and medically to improve the overall welfare of repatriated persons and their families. This support included psychotherapy, assistance in accessing the public service and assistance with schooling and housing. In addition, through economic reintegration activities repatriated persons were supported locally. The project assists the repatriated persons to enroll in on-the-job training, participate in further professional training and provide continuous mentoring services to the ones receiving business start-up grants. Finally, the project supports Municipal Offices of Communities and Return (MOCRs) to strengthen their capacities in dealing with the reintegration of repatriated persons.

Forumi Ekonomik i Anamoravës 2026 ishte një mundësi e mirë për të diskutuar potencialin për investime në rajon dhe për të krijuar partneritete të reja biznesore.

Caritas-i Zviceran në Kosovë, përmes projektit HOME, mbështeti organizimin e këtij forumi nga OEK Oda Ekonomike e Kosovës, i cili mblodhi përfaqësues të institucioneve qendrore dhe lokale, biznese vendore dhe ndërmarrës nga diaspora për të shqyrtuar mundësitë e investimeve dhe bashkëpunimit ekonomik.

Ky forum është pjesë e përpjekjeve tona më të gjera për të fuqizuar përfshirjen e diasporës në zhvillimin ekonomik të Kosovës.

The Anamorava Economic Forum was a great way to explore opportunities for investments in the region and business partnerships.
Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo, through its HOME project, supported the Anamorava Economic Forum 2026, organized by the Chamber of Commerce (KCC), bringing together national and municipal leaders, local businesses, and diaspora entrepreneurs to explore opportunities for investments in the region and business partnerships.
This forum is a part of our broader efforts to strengthen diaspora engagement in Kosovo's economic development.
In her opening remarks, Astrid Wein, Country Director of Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo, emphasized "Together with the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, we want to help create more spaces where businesses from Kosovo can meet diaspora entrepreneurs not simply as members of the diaspora, but as potential investors, buyers, suppliers, mentors and business partners."
Together with our partners, we are helping local businesses become better prepared for partnerships and investment while creating opportunities for direct engagement with diaspora entrepreneurs.
During the Forum participant had the opportunity to register on KCC’s B2B Platform, supported by HOME, which enables businesses in Kosovo and the diaspora to connect, explore opportunities, and develop commercial partnerships.

Strengthening climate and green energy education in Kosovo 🇽🇰🇩🇪

Youth brings valuable perspectives to ’s climate and energy transition. Strengthening their knowledge and creating opportunities to put it into practice can help turn everyday challenges into school initiatives and informed contributions to local decision-making.

Today in Drenas, GIZ and Caritas Switzerland signed a grant agreement and presented the Youth Empowerment in Green Energy project, bringing together municipal representatives, project partners, teachers and students.

Through 30 Eco Clubs across ten municipalities, students will develop climate and green energy initiatives, exchange experiences and receive training and support to turn their ideas into practical solutions. Cooperation with schools and municipalities will also support their participation in local climate and energy planning, giving young people a voice in decisions that affect their communities.

The project Support to the Climate and Energy Transition Partnership is supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and implemented by GIZ.

Follow-up Visits after the First Partnerships from B2B Meetings in Switzerland. 🇨🇭

During this past summer, 12 companies from 🇽🇰 Kosovo’s wood-processing sector had the opportunity to present their offers, capacities, and potential for cooperation to diaspora businesses in and , .

The B2B meetings took place during the Economic Conference of the Albanian Global Business Network and at the Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in Zurich, hosted by Kosovo’s Consul, Vigan Berisha, and his team.

We visited companies , and and enjoyed great discussions. We were able to assess the progress resulting from the established contacts, the offers tailored to the diaspora and advocate with public institutions for stronger linkages between the private sector and the .

Caritas Switzerland, recognizing the value of cooperation with private-sector partners, continues to support concrete connections between businesses and the diaspora to create opportunities and enable sustainable economic development.

U ndanë çmimet për agro-gazetarinë 2026

U mbajt ceremonia e ndarjes së çmimeve për Agro-Gazetarinë 2026, në kuadër të së cilës u vlerësuan punimet më të mira gazetareske që trajtojnë bujqësinë, zhvillimin rural dhe sfidat me të cilat përballen fermerët në Kosovë.

Në fjalën hyrëse, Xhemajl Rexha, kryetar i Asociacionit të Gazetarëve të Kosovës, theksoi rëndësinë e gazetarisë profesionale dhe të raportimit të bazuar në fakte për çështjet që lidhen me bujqësinë dhe zhvillimin rural. Ai vuri në pah se gazetarët kanë një rol të rëndësishëm në sjelljen e këtyre temave më afër publikut, duke i dhënë zë fermerëve dhe komuniteteve rurale dhe duke nxitur një diskutim më të informuar për sfidat dhe mundësitë në këtë sektor.

Më pas, Sefedin Haxhia, menaxher për komunikim në Caritas-in Zviceran, tha se kur flasim për bujqësinë, flasim për shumë më tepër sesa vetëm për prodhimin bujqësor. Sipas tij, bujqësia lidhet drejtpërdrejt me ekonominë, jetesën në zonat rurale, mjedisin, cilësinë e ushqimit, tregjet dhe të ardhmen e komuniteteve në Kosovë. Ai theksoi se ideja fillestare e kësaj nisme ishte afrimi i medias me rëndësinë e këtyre temave dhe mbështetja e gazetarisë që trajton bujqësinë dhe zhvillimin rural.

Pjesë e jurisë vlerësuese ishin Gjylshahe Beqiraj Ibrahimi, Visar Krasniqi dhe Agon Sinanaj, të cilët vlerësuan aplikimete paraqitura në kuadër të garës.

Excited to celebrate the EU Organic Day. We highlighted the progress helping shape a stronger and more sustainable future for organic agriculture in Kosovo.

Through the EREA programme, Caritas Switzerland continues to support farmers and agribusinesses, and also the strengthen the institutional foundations needed for long-term sector growth. This includes support to the new Organic Agriculture Law, the preparation of the National Organic Action Plan 2027–2030, the national logo for organic products and practical work to strengthen alignment with EU standards and market requirements.

Together with Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, sector association Organika, producers, certification bodies and other partners, we are contributing to a more competitive.
