The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, Peter Due, welcomed a NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation to UNMIK Headquarters yesterday.

The delegation was briefed on UNMIK’s mandate and the Mission’s ongoing work to support peace, stability and security in Kosovo, including through community engagement, support for trust-building efforts across communities, and coordination and engagement with international partners.

A portrait captures a moment and reveals people’s stories, hopes and experiences.

To mark UN Day 2026, UNMIK and the UN Kosovo Team opened a photo exhibition in central Pristina, bringing together 32 portraits of people in Kosovo and around the world, each offering a glimpse of the UN’s work alongside the communities it serves.

“Every face has a story, and these portraits reflect the resilience, hope and achievements of the people of Kosovo,” said SRSG Peter Due at the launch.

UN Development Coordinator Stephen O’Malley also addressed the event: “Our work helps to build stronger health and education systems, promote gender equality, the rule of law, good governance, fair labor systems, and rewarding employment opportunities.“

Together, the portraits remind us that a better future starts with people listening to each other, building trust and working together.
The exhibition will be on display at Mother Teresa Street, opposite the Grand Hotel for one week & we invite everyone to visit and discover the stories behind the portraits.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, Peter Due, strongly condemns the killing of Arlinda Zekaj in Vitomiricë/Vitomirica, near Peja/Peć, last night. He extends his heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.

“This brutal killing, the second of a woman in Kosovo in just over two weeks and the eighth this year, underscores the devastating consequences of gender-based violence and the urgent need to take every call for help seriously. Violence against women must never be tolerated,” SRSG Due said.

SRSG Due calls for a thorough investigation and accountability in accordance with the rule of law. He stresses the shared responsibility of institutions and society to prevent gender-based violence, protect women and girls, and ensure timely access to effective protection and support services.

He also highlights the importance of challenging harmful gender stereotypes, promoting equality and mutual respect, and strengthening prevention efforts through targeted awareness-raising and education.
