A fresh look at the recently completed Dr. Mark A. Ivester Center for Living and Learning at North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville, Georgia.

Located on the former site of the historic Cy Grant Gymnasium, the new 25,000-square-foot facility honors the property’s longstanding connection to the campus and surrounding mountain community. Classrooms, fitness facilities, a gymnasium, student gathering spaces and an outdoor patio come together to support the late Dr. Mark A. Ivester’s vision of “Living and Learning in the Mountains.”

Hussey Gay Bell provided architecture, interior design, civil engineering, structural engineering, permitting, construction-phase services and close-out. We are proud to have helped create a new campus landmark designed to support student life, learning, and success for years to come.

We are honored to share that the Savannah Convention Center Expansion was recognized as the Project of Excellence for Civil Site at the Georgia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers - ASCE Awards this past Saturday!

This award celebrates the thoughtful civil and site design behind a transformative project for Savannah and the surrounding region. We are incredibly proud of our team’s contributions and grateful to the project partners whose collaboration helped make this achievement possible.

Please join us in welcoming Jialun Xue, Ph.D., to Hussey Gay Bell as a Transportation Engineer in our Atlanta office!

With almost a decade of experience, Jialun specializes in roadway safety, traffic operations, transportation data analytics, and simulation. His work has supported GDOT initiatives focused on improving roadway performance and safety while informing long-term infrastructure decisions.

Jialun holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Georgia, two master’s degrees from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and two bachelor’s degrees from the Harbin Institute of Technology. He is also active in several professional organizations and was awarded the American Public Health Association Presidential Road Safety Scholarship.

Parker brings extensive experience leading residential and commercial projects throughout the Southeast. His expertise spans site grading and drainage, utility design, hydraulic modeling, municipal coordination, permitting and development. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Ceramic and Materials Engineering from Clemson University.

Rutvik "Ricky" Gaikwad has joined our Savannah office as a Water and Wastewater Design Engineer, bringing experience in site development and water resource infrastructure projects, including stormwater management, pump stations, permitting, and environmental compliance.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Clemson University and will support the planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for municipal and utility clients throughout the region.

Established by proclamation of the City of Savannah, Gus H. Bell III Day recognizes a lifetime of leadership, professional excellence, and unwavering dedication to strengthening our community. His influence extended far beyond our firm, leaving a lasting impact on the organizations, institutions, and people he served throughout his remarkable career.

Two years after his passing, Gus's legacy remains woven into the fabric of Hussey Gay Bell—reflected in our commitment to excellence, integrity, innovation, and service. We are honored to carry forward the values that defined his life and leadership, and grateful that the City of Savannah Government continues to recognize his extraordinary contributions through this annual proclamation.
