Thomas & Hutton

Thomas & Hutton Driven for Solutions. Powered by Passion.

Our story began in 1946 with the collaboration of former US Army Corps of Engineers, Hue Thomas and Joe Hutton, opening an engineering firm in Savannah, GA. Our founders envisioned tremendous opportunities in transforming the landscape and well-being of our communities by providing professional and consulting services to municipalities in the region, as well as private entities seeking to develop

in the area. Today, Thomas & Hutton stands as one of the most well-respected and established multidisciplinary firms in the Southeast, branching out to 15 offices across 10 regions in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

The modernization of UGA’s Driftmier Engineering Center is creating new opportunities for students to learn, collaborate, and prepare for careers in engineering.

We spent the day at Driftmier as UGA's Employer of the Day talking with students about future careers at Thomas & Hutton (T&H), then joined the College of Engineering for the room dedication of the Thomas & Hutton Systems Simulation Laboratory, a space designed to support hands-on learning through advanced engineering design and simulation technology.

T&H values UGA’s commitment to preparing future engineers to think critically, solve problems, and make a meaningful impact, principles that closely align with the work we do every day. Go Dawgs!

Project Spotlight: Madison Street Improvements | Dublin, Georgia

A piece of Dublin’s past helped shape the future of one of its downtown corridors.

Thomas & Hutton (T&H) partnered with the City of Dublin to design improvements along Madison Street between Church Street and Jefferson Street, creating a safer, more accessible connection through the heart of downtown. Pride Contracting Inc. and Total Earth Services , LLC. brought the design to life through construction, with the team coordinating roadway and sidewalk rehabilitation, pedestrian enhancements, landscaping, hardscape, drainage, streetscape improvements, and the transition of existing overhead utilities underground.

During construction, crews uncovered an original brick roadway believed to date to approximately 1906. While the bricks could not remain in place, the discovery inspired the City and project team to incorporate modern clay pavers throughout the corridor, carrying a piece of Madison Street’s history into its renewed design.

The completed improvements strengthen connections between the farmers market, Jefferson Street, local businesses, and other downtown destinations while creating a more walkable and inviting environment for the Dublin community

At APWA PWX 2026 in Houston, Thomas & Hutton (T&H) joined Bryan County and Ruby-Collins, Inc. to celebrate the North Bryan County Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Water Reclamation Facility, recognized as the 2026 APWA Public Works Project of the Year in the Environment category for projects greater than $75 million.

Designed to support Bryan County, Georgia rapid residential and industrial growth, the new regional facility provides 5 million gallons per day of wastewater treatment capacity, with the ability to expand to 10 MGD. A public wastewater facility of this scale can take five years or more to move from initial planning to operation. The project team delivered North Bryan in approximately 28 months.

T&H served as lead engineering consultant from early planning through design, permitting, construction, startup, and commissioning. By advancing design, permitting, procurement, and construction concurrently, the project team turned an urgent infrastructure need into an award-winning regional solution.

Congratulations to Bryan County, Ruby-Collins, and the entire project team on this well-earned national recognition!

Leadership takes shape through the experiences that challenge us, change us, and stay with us.

Principal and Marketing Director Cecilia Arango will join Leadership Savannah’s Graduate Series “Note to Self”, Part II on September 17, sharing her perspective alongside fellow Leadership Savannah alumni Christopher Middleton and Jamey Espina.

The evening will explore the defining moments leaders face throughout their lives and careers, with each speaker sharing a personal “Note to Self” rooted in reflection, resilience, and purpose.

We’re proud to see Cecilia bring her experience, perspective, and commitment to relationships and service to this meaningful conversation.

Elyssa Roberts and Veronica Garibaldi from our Chamblee office recently joined Tunnel to Towers for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of its Memphis Veterans Village.

Both Elyssa and Veronica are part of the T&H design team supporting Tunnel to Towers projects, with Elyssa playing a key role in the civil design and project updates for the Memphis location.

It was meaningful to see the project come to life and celebrate a new community that will provide housing and support for veterans in Memphis. We’re proud of Elyssa, Veronica, and the entire project team for the work behind this important milestone.

A few aprons, a dinner shift, and an evening well spent brought members of our Columbia office together at Transitions Homeless Center, where they volunteered to help serve dinner to individuals in the community.

Andy Kassell, Debbie Mullinax, Corey Wise, Timothy Osborn, Zach Ostoin, Katie McCoy, and Brad Sanderson spent the evening pitching in wherever needed, supporting Transitions and its work throughout the Midlands.

Thank you to this crew for trading their usual Thursday evening plans for a few hours of service and connection with the Columbia community!

Building a better world goes beyond the projects we design. It’s also about how we show up for the communities we call home.

For the 2nd year in a row, Thomas & Hutton is a 2026 PSMJ Building a Better World Award honoree, a national recognition celebrating AEC firms making a meaningful difference in their communities.

From employee-led fundraisers and our Helping Hands volunteer program to Jeans Day Fridays and long-standing support of organizations across the Southeast, giving back is part of T&H’s culture since our founding in 1946.

The recognition is especially meaningful during our 80th anniversary year, as our employees work toward completing 80 community service projects across the Southeast in 2026, carrying forward a commitment to service that has shaped T&H for eight decades.

“Our responsibility extends beyond improving the built environment. We also have the opportunity to improve people’s lives.”
– Jason Chambless, PE, President
