Parks are more than just places - they’re a special part of the community 🌳

Community engagement was at the heart of our Bottineau Field Park project. From the very beginning, we wanted to understand what this space means to the people who use it.

We connected with community members at:
🌱 Art-a-Whirl
🌱 the local recreation center
🌱 the nearby elementary school

These conversations helped shape the vision for the park and gave us a better understanding of what makes this community space so special 💚

EOR's Jay Michels is the keynote speaker for the Regional Stormwater Summit this week at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan!

Jay will be sharing the Minnesota Low Impact Development (LID) story that began over 30 years ago, when protecting water resources in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" became a priority. Inspired by efforts in Chesapeake Bay, Minnesota pioneered an approach built on policy and practice, funding, science, and research - all aimed at protecting our waters and removing them from the 303(d) Impaired Waters List.

From shaping stormwater policy to implementing best management practices, Jay has been part of Minnesota’s LID journey from the start. We look forward to sharing how these lessons can help protect our waters and shape the future of stormwater management 💧

Last week, our WI team joined Clean Lakes Alliance to help get hundreds of native plants into the ground 🌱

Native plants not only add beauty to our parks, but they also hold soil in place, absorb + filter stormwater to reduce runoff, and provide valuable habitat for pollinators and local wildlife.

Thank you Madison Parks for hosting!

EOR has been working closely with the City of Minneapolis Government for several years to establish and maintain vegetation across the city’s growing network of green stormwater infrastructure.

Next week at the Minnesota Water Resources Conference, EOR’s Marla Brown and Justin Reynolds from the City of Minneapolis will share lessons learned from trials and early challenges, along with the strategies now helping Minneapolis scale successful approaches across the city, such as:

🌳Testing plant materials to find what thrives in challenging urban conditions
🌳Refining establishment, maintenance, and contractor practices to keep vegetation thriving long-term
🌳Building understanding and stewardship through various public outreach tools

See you there! 💧
