After 17 years, Crescent Beach has officially reopened! 🏖️

To help remediate surface water contamination and allow community members to return to the beach, H2M partnered with the City of Glen Cove to develop strategies and designs to address the contamination issues at nearby sites. This resulted in a multi-year program that included the installation of two Helix filter systems, grading and landscaping for a rain garden, and the replacement of a clogged box culvert to promote higher tidal exchange with wetlands near the beach.

With these improvements in place, along with sampling data from the past three years, the Nassau County Department of Health recently granted conditional approval for the City to reopen the beach. While safeguards will remain in place, H2M and the City are thrilled for residents to regain access to the water at Crescent Beach for the first time since 2009!

H2M Assistant Vice President and Landscape Architecture Practice Leader Ken Keltai, RLA, LLA, ISA, was proud to attend the recent ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly enhanced playground and outdoor recreation spaces at Polk Street School, part of the Franklin Square Union Free School District.

Through architectural and engineering services, H2M helped transform the site into a vibrant, student-centered environment featuring a turf baseball field, modern playground equipment, basketball hoops, a gaga pit, shaded seating areas, improved recreation surfaces, new walkways, and gathering spaces that encourage students to learn, play, and connect.

Seeing students celebrate the opening of this vibrant new space was a meaningful reminder of the impact thoughtful design can have on everyday school experiences. We’re honored to continue supporting environments that are safe, inclusive, engaging, and built for the communities they serve.

H2M Assistant Vice President and Coatings Services Department Manager Arthur Eschete, Jr., and Senior Water Resources Engineer Tony Trombino recently published an article on coating systems in NJ Municipalities, the official magazine of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities (NJLM).

“Coatings: A Long-Term Solution for Resilient Infrastructure” highlights the urgent need to address deficiencies in old, worn, and outdated infrastructure such as bridges and roads. Coatings play a vital role in extending the operational expectancy of a structure, potentially adding decades to its lifespan by shielding it from damage caused by corrosion, moisture, chemical exposure, and environmental wear.
