We had a frightfully good time at our Annual KL Costume Contest! Team members from across all of our offices, including those working remotely, joined in the fun and showcased their creativity. From classic costumes to imaginative originals, the KL Engineering family brought plenty of Halloween spirit. A special thank you to Shannon Jacobs for organizing another fantastic event!

KL's Scott Cramer and Ryan Schanhofer attended the ACEC National Conference this week. The company leaders took the opportunity to learn and network with industry professionals, and valued the keynote speaker Jake Wood, the leader of Rubicon. Scott was representing both KL and American Council of Engineering Companies of Wisconsin - ACEC Wisconsin as the Chair-Elect for our state. They enjoyed spending time with colleagues from Wisconsin and around the country!

KL’s Traffic Group took a field trip to get an up-close look at traffic signal and lighting equipment. The outing provided an opportunity to better understand how different design components work together and gain valuable firsthand experience to support future designs. It was also a great opportunity to see intersections designed by KL staff constructed and in operation!

KL's Marc Kluge and Tiffany Ehlert recently attended Elk Mound High School's fall career fair, where they had the opportunity to connect with students and discuss careers in engineering. Later that day, Marc and KL's Jon Blomquist presented to a group of students interested in engineering careers. Supporting and inspiring the next generation of professionals is always rewarding, and we hope to welcome some of these students as future interns.

KL Engineering really shined at last night’s ASCE - Wisconsin Section Annual Meeting! Three KL projects received recognition, winning three of the four 2026 ASCE Wisconsin Engineering Achievement Awards given at the awards banquet. KL's Gerry Schmitt, Brad Domasky, and Joshua Melby were in attendance to accept the awards for the CTH M Reconstruction, CTH D Causeway Reconstruction, and Sparta Rest Area projects respectively. Congratulations to the winner of the fourth award, Ramboll, for the Dredged Material Management Facility project in the Port of Milwaukee. KL was a subcontractor for construction survey and monitoring by drone for the project, working with Michels Corporation, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District - MMSD, and Port of Milwaukee.

We will be highlighting each project in the coming weeks and sharing how they exemplify achievements of engineering.

KL's Bill Biesmann and Karen Richardson attended a meeting of the City of Fitchburg, WI - Government Common Council to celebrate our recent recertification as a Bike Friendly Business. We were honored to be part of an event recognizing Fitchburg's national leadership and the collaborative efforts of Bike Fitchburg Forum, the Fitchburg Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Fitchburg to promote business engagement and bicycling since 2022.

Being part of an active, bike-friendly community is something we value deeply at KL. Thank you to the Fitchburg Common Council and all the partners who continue to make Fitchburg a great place to live, work, and ride.

A little rain didn't stop KL's Marc Kluge (pictured), Ryan Schanhofer, and Jack Lanning from enjoying a day of golf in support of UW-Madison College of Engineering's Civil & Environmental Engineering Department!

The event was a great opportunity to connect with others in the industry while supporting a good cause. As Marc shared, "It was great to catch up with former colleagues and meet some students."

We're always happy to support the next generation of engineers and enjoy some time on the course along the way!

Congratulations to Emily Schmidt on earning her Engineer in Training (EIT) certification!

This is the first step toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Emily was recently hired to work on our Infrastructure Services team in our Madison office.
