A milestone moment for 16th Street.

Congratulations to the 16th Street Revitalization project team on receiving an Honor Award at the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards!

This major reinvestment in one of Denver’s most recognizable corridors balanced transit, pedestrian access, utilities, drainage, tree health, granite pavers, and active downtown businesses within a constrained urban setting.

The result is infrastructure people can feel: safer crossings, clearer movement, improved accessibility, healthier shade, and a renewed public realm built for long-term performance.

AWSOM, indeed.

Congratulations to the Alice Walton School of Medicine project team on receiving an Honor Award at the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards!

Set into the natural landscape of Bentonville, Arkansas, AWSOM is a 154,000-SF facility designed to connect health, art, and nature.

The structure is just as impressive as the mission: a two-story “super truss” system supports dramatic cantilevers, including an 82-foot-long entry canopy and a two-acre green roof. The result is a building that feels light, restorative, and deeply connected to its surroundings, while quietly doing some serious structural heavy lifting.

Thank you to Polk Stanley Wilcox for the innovative design vision.

As Earth Week comes to a close, we’re celebrating the employee-led initiatives that made sustainability feel practical, approachable, and fun.

Our annual Earth Week Fair featured an incredible group of sustainably-focused vendors. MM also sponsored a series of employee challenges centered on everyday impact, including:
• choosing alternative transportation
• embracing thrifted fashion
• improving recycling habits
• taking steps toward composting

Small, thoughtful, everyday choices can add to lasting positive and sustainable change.

And a special thank you to our sustainable vendors, including:
Independent Power
Blue Star Recyclers
Compost Colorado

This award reflects decades of work on marquee projects, creative solutions to complex design challenges, and industry leadership. This is a well-earned recognition for a career that has left a lasting mark on Martin/Martin and the structural steel community.

Congratulations, Jack!

Before a project rises, a lot has to happen at ground level. Mason Talkington is pictured at the future site of Southface Vail, a workforce housing project.

Behind him is a 30-foot soil nail shoring wall, with double-tiered soil nail walls above, bringing the total retained height to nearly 45 feet. At its maximum, the system reaches an impressive 53 feet of retained height!

Because the site sits on a steep slope, these walls are critical in creating the building pad for the future 930-foot-long, 67,000 SF building.

Projects like this take thoughtful design, close coordination, and strong teamwork to make challenging mountain sites buildable.

This Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting Rachel Schall, PE, Senior Project Engineer, and her work on the Windler Midtown Single Family Residential Development in Aurora, Colorado.

Spanning 110 acres with 657 home lots, along with neighborhood and linear parks, the project marked Rachel’s first time leading a development of this size. Hear how she collaborated with the City of Aurora to help establish a new neighborhood plan process, creating a more streamlined path for future communities.
