FHU recently welcomed juniors from Westview High School’s Civil Engineering Pathway program in Omaha for a firsthand look at the world of civil engineering. Through conversations with FHU professionals and an inside look at our projects, students explored how engineers solve problems, shape communities, and make a difference in the places we live.

On October 18, FHU celebrated 42 years of connecting and enhancing communities!

Founded in 1984 by Bob Felsburg and Steve Holt, the firm became Felsburg Holt & Ullevig when Arnie Ullevig joined as a partner the following year. Together, they shaped a company built on a commitment to exceptional work, talented people and a place where employees enjoy what they do and who they work with.

As we celebrate FHU's 42nd anniversary, Bob reflects on the culture the founders set out to build and the legacy that continues today. Here's to the people who have made it possible and those who will carry it forward!

Before crews could break ground on I-270, the project team had to lay the groundwork. Now, it's exciting to see this major corridor transformation take shape!

Colorado recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the I-270 Corridor Improvements project, marking an important milestone for this critical connection between I-25 and I-70.

FHU has helped support the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process through traffic modeling, forecasting, and evaluation of alternatives to improve safety, mobility, and reliability along the corridor. And our work doesn't stop there. FHU is leading the bridge design team for the project, which includes replacing 12 aging bridges as part of a broader effort to modernize this vital transportation connection.

FHU is proud to partner with CDOT and surrounding agencies, shaping future-ready improvements that will keep Colorado's people and goods moving for years to come.

Buying AI tools doesn't make your firm innovative. Changing how your people work might. That's the conversation FHU President Holly Buck is bringing to the ACEC National Conference in Phoenix.

In her session, "Ignite Innovation: Moving from AI Skepticism to Organizational Intelligence," Holly will share how FHU is approaching AI differently. Instead of starting with technology, we started with our people.

An employee-led innovation initiative generated more than 40 ideas, revealing a common challenge: how do we make it easier for our teams to access and use the knowledge we already have? That question helped shape our approach to AI, including a pilot designed to connect information, expertise, and opportunities across the firm.

We're still learning, and that's part of the story. Holly will share our approach, what we're discovering, and practical ideas other engineering firms can put to work. Heading to ACEC National? We'd love to see you at Holly's session.

Our annual FHU Iowa State tailgate brought together friends, colleagues, clients, and Cyclone fans for a great Homecoming weekend in Ames.

One of our favorite parts of this tradition is connecting outside of work—catching up with familiar faces, meeting new people, and enjoying each other’s company.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by for good food and conversation. A 45–42 Cyclone win topped off a great day!

Keeping people moving sometimes starts with keeping water moving. From managing stormwater to designing effective drainage systems, water plays an important role in building transportation systems that last.

Recently, FHU’s Water Resources team, more than 25 professionals across our offices, came together in Omaha for a team retreat filled with field visits, knowledge sharing, relationship building, and, of course, a little FHUn.

It’s , and we’re not letting a little rain dampen our excitement about Omaha’s recently opened single-lane roundabouts at 48th & Q and 48th & Y Streets!

FHU worked with the City of Omaha to transform this busy stretch of 48th Street from an aging, rural-style roadway into a more connected urban corridor. Through the public involvement process, we heard two important priorities from the people who use the corridor: residents wanted slower speeds and safer intersections, while commuters wanted to keep moving.

The solution? Two compact roundabouts designed to balance both, reducing conflict points and maintaining traffic flow.
