Happy National Rivers Month!

Rivers and streams do more than move water. They provide critical habitat for fish and wildlife, support local communities, and often intersect with the roads and infrastructure we rely on every day.

At HMH Engineering, we're proud to help reconnect waterways through fish passage and Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP) projects that improve habitat, restore stream connectivity, and enhance infrastructure resilience throughout Idaho and the Pacific Northwest.

Our integrated team provides:
• Survey and geomatics
• Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis
• Geotechnical engineering
• Fisheries and habitat assessment
• Stream restoration and natural channel design
• Bridge and culvert design
• Environmental permitting and agency coordination
• Construction engineering and inspection

From stream simulation culverts and bottomless arches to bridge replacements and stream restoration, we help communities develop infrastructure that works with natural systems rather than against them.

Here's to healthy rivers, thriving ecosystems, and infrastructure designed to support both.

We had a great time this week at the Association of Idaho Cities (AIC) Conference connecting with mayors, clerks, council members, and local leaders from across the state.

It was a valuable opportunity to discuss how HMH Engineering can support Idaho communities through drinking water system improvements, land use planning, general engineering services, and other infrastructure solutions.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to connect with our team!

Last week, some of the HMH team had the opportunity to participate in Fernan Elementary’s STEM Night, and what an awesome evening it was!

With nearly 500 students and family members in attendance, the event was packed with curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning. Our team loved helping kids mix and create more than 200 batches of concrete, demonstrating drone technology, and sharing a glimpse into the world of engineering and construction.

A huge thank you to Fernan Elementary for inviting us to be part of such a fun and impactful event. We are always grateful for opportunities to support STEM education and connect with the next generation of innovators, builders, and problem-solvers!

Project Spotlight: Affinity at Missoula

Affinity at Missoula is a 55+ active community built for connection, creativity, and comfort. From an art studio and wood shop to an indoor saltwater pool, outdoor fire pits, and even an Irish pub, this space is designed to elevate everyday living.

HMH Engineering is proud to be part of bringing this vision to life, providing inspection services across soils, reinforced concrete, structural steel, and wood. This project includes a 60,000 square foot main building slab, 30,000 square feet of living space, eight garages, a pool house, plus parking areas, sidewalks, and walkways.

Every cone, sign, and flagger represents someone working hard who deserves to get home safely.

As we recognize Work Zone Awareness Week, we’re reminding everyone to slow down, stay alert, and respect those working along our roads. A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference. Drive smart. Stay aware. Protect our crews. 🚩🚧🦺

We are excited to start this week off with a big congrats to Jade Williams on officially earning her PE license! After putting in the time, effort, and brainpower to pass the exam, she’s now adding those two well-earned letters behind her name and bringing even more expertise to the HMH team. Way to go, Jade!

Building Idaho’s Future👷‍♂️🏗️

Ever noticed the American flag flying from a steel beam during bridge construction? This tradition is called topping out. It started over a century ago when ironworkers would raise a flag or an evergreen tree on the final beam. It represents pride, safety, and a job well done. It also honors the crews who built it, and the communities it will serve for generations.

We recently captured this moment at the I-84 and SH-16 Interchange project in Boise. This milestone marks progress on a project that will support Idaho’s growth for years to come.

Projects like this take a strong team. Project Managers, Engineers, Inspectors, Materials Testers, and Surveyors all play a role in making sure every detail meets the highest standards.

From the bridge above to the ground below, infrastructure matters. And we are proud to help build a stronger future for Idaho.🛠️🦺
