Halloween at Welch Comer means two things: creative costumes and some seriously competitive chili!

Our team celebrated with our annual Halloween Costume Contest and Chili Cook-Off, bringing plenty of creativity, friendly competition, and Halloween spirit to the office.

After the votes were counted and the chili was thoroughly taste-tested, this year’s winners are:

🏆 Best Girl Costume: Sadi Reynolds as a Jedi with her R2D2 shop-vac cohort!
🏆 Best Boy Costume: Ryland Hoit as Draco Malfoy, complete with green tie!

🌶️ Chili Cook-Off
🥇 1st Place: Melissa Cleveland with a spicy White Chicken Chili
🥈 2nd Place: Ryland Hoit with a chunky tomato Classic Chili
🥉 3rd Place: Thomas Tucker with a saucy and smooth Classic Chili

Thanks to everyone who dressed up, brought their best chili recipe, and joined in the fun. We love traditions like these that bring our team together and make Welch Comer a pretty great place to work.

Happy Halloween from the Welch Comer team! 🎃

Recently, Welch Comer had a great time at Ponderay Neighbor Day, sharing more about the Ponderay Lakeshore Connection Underpass project and connecting with community members about what’s ahead.

Throughout the day, our team talked with attendees about the background of the project, where we are in the design process, and the anticipated timeline for securing funding and moving the project forward.

We also invited the community to help bring the project to life! Our booth featured a black-and-white canvas depicting a concept of the future underpass. As Neighbor Day progressed, attendees added their own color until the entire scene was filled in by the community.

It was a fun way to share the vision for the project and hear from the people it will ultimately serve. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and added a little color!

Connecting with the Next Generation of Engineers!

We've been out connecting with the next generation of engineering professionals at two recent university career fairs!
Ryland Hoit and Ashley Williams, both proud University of Idaho alumni, returned to their alma mater to represent Welch Comer at the University of Idaho Career Fair. Meanwhile, Jack Griffing and Luba Chayka represented our team at the Gonzaga University Career Fair.

These events are a great opportunity to connect with students, share what it's like to work at Welch Comer, and introduce future professionals to the exciting projects and career opportunities available in our industry.
As a 100% employee-owned firm, we're passionate about investing in the next generation of engineers and building connections that help shape the future of our communities.
A big thank you to both universities for hosting these events and to everyone who stopped by to chat with our team!

Our own Thomas Tucker put his creativity and technical skills to work and designed LiDAR Run, a drone-inspired game based around UAS mapping and flight operations.

The mission is simple... at least in theory. Control your drone, avoid restricted airspace and obstacles, and collect LiDAR returns while trying to rack up the highest score.

It’s a fun intersection of technology, surveying, and a little friendly competition, all created by one of our own.

Think you can beat the high score? Give LiDAR Run a try and comment below your what your highest score is!

Play LiDAR Run — fly the survey drone, collect LiDAR returns, don't hit the trees or the restricted airspace.

Play Drone Flight (kids) — nothing to crash into. Just fly and collect stars.

Welch Comer Engineers recently partnered with Mach9 for a webinar exploring how our team is using drone technology and Digital Surveyor to streamline the process of turning aerial data into CAD-ready deliverables.

In the full seminar, we walked through a real-world workflow and shared how these tools are helping our survey team process data more efficiently while maintaining the accuracy and quality our projects require.
