BG performs in over 30 states throughout the U.S. and each state has their own unique financial rules and regulations. Navigating different standards can cause regular processes to become complex, slowing operations and delaying essential functions.

Access Coins Evo is a construction ERP platform for specialty contractors. This week, Sabrina Strassheim, a Solution Delivery Manager from Coins, gave a 2-day training seminar for our team. This training covered topics on navigating different state tax codes, how to incorporate Coins software into BG’s billing practices, and how to best utilize the platform to see profitability in real-time, not months later.

Thank you to Sabrina and Access Group for the visit, and to Olivia Vitanza and Debbie Lesar for organizing the event.

The weather is heating up and so is the progress on our office renovations. Take a peek at some of the work going on!

We lifted and installed a new RTU, started putting up drywall to flesh out new office spaces and conference rooms, created a new foundation for our upgraded patio area, and installed windows throughout the new addition.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is critical in construction because the environment is inherently high-risk due to heavy machinery, falling objects, sharp tools, electrical systems, and hazardous materials being a part of daily work. PPE acts as the last line of defense when other safety measures (like training or engineering controls) are not enough on their own.

Why hard hats?
· Hard hats are a form of injury prevention. Wearing a hard hat can mean the difference between a close call and a life-threatening head injury.

Why work boots?
· Work boots help protect our feet from a variety of hazards such as impacts from falling tools or material and punctures from nails or glass. They also allow us to reach our work areas safely by providing slip resistant outsoles, which are good for climbing ladders or walking over wet and uneven surfaces.

· Gloves, safety glasses, fireproof clothing, etc. are other vital PPE items that keep workers in our industry safe from hazards each day. But PPE doesn’t just protect against immediate hazards, it also protects against long-term health issues like hearing loss, silicosis, asbestosis, etc. For these long-term health issues, we use PPE like hearing protection and respirators to keep us safe while performing work.

· Safety regulations, like those set by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), require proper PPE use. Following OSHA rules avoids fines, reduces liability, and demonstrates a commitment to worker safety.

PPE is essential because it saves lives, prevents both immediate and long-term harm, ensures legal compliance, and keeps construction projects and service locations running smoothly.

In Ohio, both state-wide and regional safety violations are following a frightening pattern that is shaped by industrial mix, geography, and enforcement structure. Focusing on mechanical construction trades in Ohio (roofing, HVAC, steel er****on, piping, and industrial install), these patterns are alarmingly repetitive.

The dominant violation is fall protection failures, which is the leading cause of construction deaths and has been OSHA’s #1 cited violation for over a decade.

In Ohio, contractors are repeatedly cited for:
· Working at 20–30 ft. heights without harnesses
· Having equipment on-site but not enforcing its use
· Failing to adequately train workers on fall hazards

Other types of violations include:
· Improper ladder set up and use
· Unsafe scaffolding er****on
· Missing personal protective equipment (PPE)
· No formal safety training programs
· Repeat and willful violations

Contractors are often cited 5–12+ times for the same violation over multiple years. For example, crews may be observed roofing or installing systems without fall protection even after prior penalties. This is not a knowledge problem, but a compliance culture problem, especially among small-to-mid size mechanical contractors.

Brewer-Garret is dedicated to providing the necessary training and equipment needed to execute a safe job while working at height. Training is performed when:
Upon hire
Annually
As needed (refreshers)
After any fall related incident or near miss

Each end user inspects fall protection gear, guardrails, equipment, etc. before each use. If any is found defective it is immediately removed from service.
