It's Fun Friday where we teach kids about Civil and Geotechnical Engineering and provide some activities you can do with your kids this summer to keep them thinking...like an Engineer!

Welcome, Will!

We asked Will what made him choose Geo-Sci Laboratory and he said "I enjoy how everyone knows each other. It's a very close knit group!"

Will said he chose this career path because he found a "true passion for geology and environmental sciences [in college]".

Will is a lifelong Nintendo fan and enjoys crocheting and ceramics.

Welcome, Regina Demechko!

Regina (Reggi) currently attends The University of South Florida where she is majoring in Environmental Engineering.

Reggi shared that she chose environmental engineering because she want[s] to preserve our environment and make it a safer place for humans, plants, and animals to live.

Her dream job is to be a traveling Geologist!

In her free time, Reggi enjoys playing piano and guitar, rock climbing, watching movies, and hiking. She's ready for all of the adventures this summer!

Jordan was a summer intern with Geo-Sci Laboratory just last summer and received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Cleveland State University this May.

Jordan shared that his internship confirmed that he wanted to work in the construction field. He chose to work at Geo-Sci because he enjoys the tight-knit family work environment and feels valued as a team member.

𝟭. 𝗖𝗠𝗧 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀.
𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, otherwise known as CMT, is designed to minimize surprises down the road. The more tests that are carried out prior to land purchase and/or construction, the easier remediation typically becomes when issues such as soil contamination, groundwater drainage problems, or structural deficiencies are found.

𝟮. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗠𝗧 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀.
Most companies begin CMT before a project ever gets off the ground. Proper Construction Materials Testing can better inform decisions on technical specifications, needed reinforcements, and any municipal/utilitarian issues that might come into play.

𝟯. 𝗖𝗠𝗧 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀.
This practice area spans a wide array of disciplines. Just about any material can be tested in-lab for viability during construction. When is CMT needed? On nearly any size commercial project. Some of the types of projects it’s most useful for include high-rise or high-occupancy structures, water and wastewater facilities, bridges, tunnels, and other civil engineering projects. When a construction site is designed to handle a lot of use over time, it’s imperative that its foundational materials must be identified and verified before proceeding.

𝟱. 𝗖𝗠𝗧 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁.
Construction Materials Testing is not as expensive as you might think! Because it is offered at several levels, project managers have the ability to choose exactly how much testing is needed. From observation services to third-party evaluations in the lab, materials can either be tested on-site or off-site. It’s often the variety of tests, not the variety of materials, that most influence the cost of the service.
