Book Review: A Rewilder's Guide to Outdoor Adventure
I am fortunate enough to know the author of this incredible book, meeting him after the amazing health transformations described in this book had already taken place. Patrick is a living example of recovery, resilience, adaptability, knowledge, and wisdom. In his book, A Rewilder’s Guide to Outdoor Adventure, he clearly lays out the steps to reclaiming your own health.
The difference between what Patrick teaches and other contemporaries, is that Patrick approaches the root causes and heals from the foundation up, creating lasting, permanent health. What the reader needs to know is that these approaches are not gimmicks or bio-hacks, but rather they are so startingly simple that it almost seems too good to be true: all I have to do is go outside? What most modern humans fail to remember is that we are biologically and physiologically the same as our ancestors 50,000 years ago. In other words, our needs to be healthy are the exact same as our distant relatives.
What this means is that even though we have computers and pharmaceuticals, we may appear to be progressive and advanced, but in biologic reality the source of our true health is as simple as walking in the mountains, drinking pure spring water, and allowing the sun to directly caress our bare skin. A pill will never replace this.
The problem most modern humans have is that they are not comfortable in these wilderness settings.
This is where Patrick’s life-long work will benefit anyone who wants to seek better health. Through his trials and tribulations, he has worked out how anyone can be comfortable in the wilderness. Through his direct experiences, experimentations, and research, he guides the reader to achieve lasting health. This is a ground breaking book, one that has the potential to help anyone who takes its advice. I also own a few of his Lucky Sheep products, including the wool sleeping bag, and they really do perform as he describes in the book. On behalf of humanity, I say thank you to this visionary human.
