Engineering quick tip: the hardest mount is almost never the safest choice.

It's tempting to spec a firmer rubber mount “to be safe.” But durometer — how hard the rubber is — controls a tradeoff: harder rubber carries more load but isolates less. Go too hard and you can push the mount's natural frequency up into your machine's operating range and actually amplify the vibration you were trying to stop.

The rule of thumb: choose the softest durometer that still safely carries the load on each individual mount. That gives you the most deflection — and the best isolation — without letting the equipment over-compress.

One more: match durometer to the load each mount actually sees. Unevenly loaded feet often need different hardnesses to keep the machine level and isolating evenly.
