We’re proud to introduce our sponsored rider, Ben Watson.

Now, this is where things get a bit confusing…

Ben rides for Dirt Store Triumph in the British Championship and MXGP. We’re Watson Plant Hire. Ben’s a Watson. We’re Watsons. For years we’ve been telling everyone there’s absolutely no family connection.

Then Ben went and started dating the boss’s daughter.

So while we’re still not technically related, he’s certainly making things awkward for himself if he doesn’t get good results.

Ben spends his weekends battling some of the fastest riders in the world, sending a motocross bike over huge jumps and representing the Watson name on the international stage. We spend ours moving tarmac with machines that weigh more than his entire pit setup.

It’s a partnership we’re proud of, and we’re looking forward to supporting Ben throughout the season.

Just remember, Ben - if the racing doesn’t go to plan, family dinners might be a bit uncomfortable. Not because you’re a Watson… but because you’re dating one.

Our lads & lady’s enjoying the Sunday sun underneath our W150 ☀️💪. This was another successful shift with the team putting in the work and keeping everything running smoothly, working closely with one of our customers on a 200 tonne job, and from start to finish everything went exactly to plan - great teamwork, good communication, and a smooth operation all round.

Proud of the effort everyone’s been putting in on site lately 👏

Good morning everyone 👋

We’ve been a little quiet on here recently - but it’s certainly not because things have been quiet behind the scenes.

It’s been a very busy period for the team at Watson Plant Hire supporting schemes across the network, and we’ve also been investing in the business to strengthen what we can offer our clients. So to cut to the good part.

Watson Plant Hire has recently added a 2 meter road planer to the fleet - increasing our capacity to support large scale surfacing programmes and high output night or weekend possessions.

This investment allows us to deliver:
✔ Efficient removal on wider carriageways
✔ Fewer passes on large schemes
✔ Reduced programme time on site
✔ Reliable support for tight resurfacing windows

We know how critical dependable planing support is to keeping surfacing works on schedule, and this addition helps us continue delivering exactly that.

The machine will be available for upcoming resurfacing schemes from June.

Watson Plant Hire are looking to expand our team and are currently seeking experienced W100 and W210 Planer Operators to join our growing road planing division, operating out of our Shropshire depot.

About Us

Watson Plant Hire is a well-established and reputable road planing contractor, delivering high-quality services across the Midlands and surrounding areas. We pride ourselves on professionalism, reliability, and maintaining high standards across all our projects.

The Role

You will be responsible for operating Wirtgen W100 and W210 planers on a variety of highway and commercial projects. Work will include day shifts, night shifts, and occasional weekend work depending on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Safe and efficient operation of W100 & W210 planers
• Carrying out daily machine checks and basic maintenance
• Working closely with site teams to meet programme deadlines
• Maintaining high health & safety standards at all times
• Ensuring quality of finished planed surfaces

Requirements

• Proven experience operating W100 and/or W210 planers
• Valid CPCS or NPORS card (essential)
• Full UK driving licence
• Good understanding of health & safety on highways
• Flexible and reliable with a strong work ethic
• Ability to work as part of a team

Desirable (but not essential)
• Highways Passport / CSCS card
• Experience on other planing machinery
• HGV licence
