🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 A June to Remember: From the Lowlands to the Highlands 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

June has been a monumental month for the EB Critical team in Scotland.

First and foremost, we are absolutely delighted to welcome Andrew Graham EngTech MIGEM to the team as our newest Combustion Systems Engineer – great to have you on board, Andrew! 👏

On top of that, the team have had the privilege of crisscrossing Scotland, from the bustling central belt to the remote Northern coasts, strengthening existing partnerships and forging new ones.

The diversity of Scotland's industrial landscape never ceases to amaze us. This month alone, our site visits have spanned five critical sectors that form the backbone of Scotlands economy:

🔬 Nuclear – Ensuring safety and precision in some of the most controlled environments on earth.

💊 Pharma – Navigating the rigorous demands of life sciences to support health and innovation.

🥃 Distilling – Working alongside the heritage and craftsmanship that defines Scotland's global reputation.

🛢️ Oil & Gas – Supporting the transition and efficiency of our traditional energy powerhouse.

🍽️ Food Production – Partnering with producers to maintain quality, safety, and supply chain resilience from farm to fork.

From the urban hubs to the breathtaking scenery of the Highlands, every client has a unique challenge, but the common thread is clear: a relentless pursuit of excellence and resilience.

A huge thank you to all the teams who welcomed us onto their sites this month. Your insights are invaluable, and we are excited about the road ahead.

Onwards to Q3! 🚀

🔥 From Steam Boilers to Superbikes: Our 2026 F900 Cup Campaign is Go! 🔥

The lights are green, the tires are warm, and the EB critical phase is officially underway in our first round of the 2026 F900 Cup – part of the British Superbike Championship.

But this year is different.

Not only have we expanded once again to produce our own EB Critical Motorsport division, but we’re also fielding one of our very own.

That's right – a trainee combustion engineer is piloting the bike.

Stepping away from steam boilers, industrial burners, and combustion plant rooms… and stepping into leathers, a helmet, and a BMW Motorrad UK 900cc twin.

The same person who analyses flame quality, burner pressure, and heat transfer in heavy industry is now managing braking zones, apex speeds, and tyre wear at 130+mph!

Why? Because combustion is combustion – whether it's happening inside a steam boiler or a high-performance motorcycle engine. And focus? That travels well.

So as the EB (engine braking) phase hits critical in every corner, remember: our rider knows a thing or two about controlled energy release. Only now, there's no heat exchanger in sight – just pure asphalt, adrenaline, and precision.

From the plant room to pit lane. From steam to speed. The EB Critical Motorsport division has arrived.

Keep an eye on the F900 Cup standings this BSB season. The boiler-suited apprentice is now the track-suited racer.

Let’s burn some rubber. 🔧🏍️💨

⚡️Rapid response to Critical Steam failure⚡️

When a new clients primary steam boiler failed, production stopped!

The priority was clear: restore steam capability as quickly and as cost efficiently as possible.

EB Critical deployed immediately. A CERTUSS UK steam generator package was sourced over 200 miles away. It was then rapidly disassembled and transported directly to the site near Bournemouth.

The unit was then installed, commissioned and then signed off by the sites insurance provider.

This enabled the site to get back online without any unnecessary delay, helped by the seamless transition of the regional EB Critical teams working in the two locations.

This isn’t an isolated case. It’s what we do, day in, day out — providing market leading Critical Asset Support, throughout the UK and Ireland, when clients need it most! 💪🏻

⏰ No time for messing about when a site is down! ⏰

The EB team recently completed a tricky Certuss steam generator coil change, after poor water treatment caused it to fail and take the site offline!

Working alongside CERTUSS UK, who delivered a brand new coil to the client in the shortest time possible. The EB team then proceeded to complete the task in hand with Military Precision 👊🏻

Do the job right, do it once. 💥

📍 North East to North Wales: On the Move 📍

Some projects test our logistics planning abilities as much as our engineering abilities. This is one of them!

The EB team were tasked with managing the urgent transportation of a modular steam boiler plant, coming from the North East, right across the M62 and down to North Wales.

Once again the EB team delivered on time and under budget!

The plant is now on site in North Wales. The heavy lifting is done. Next up: is the route to getting the plant producing steam for its new facility!

More to follow.

🔔 Operational savings of up to £36,000 PER YEAR! 🔔

Steam trap surveys might not sound glamorous, but for anyone running or maintaining a steam system, they are one of the most effective ways to boost efficiency, reduce costs, and improve safety!

Steam traps do a simple, yet critical job: they remove condensate and non-condensable gases while keeping live steam in the system.
When a trap fails often without warning the consequences can be costly. If a trap fails open, live steam escapes, wasting energy and driving up fuel bills. If it fails closed, condensate backs up, causing water hammer, corrosion, poor heat transfer, and even equipment damage.

A steam trap survey systematically inspects each available trap in the system to identify failures, inefficiencies, and incorrect trap selection. The findings are often eye opening!

Why steam trap surveys matter:

• Improved boiler efficiency – Reduced steam loss means the boiler works less to meet demand.

• Lower energy costs – A single failed trap can waste thousands of pounds in fuel each year.

• Increased system reliability – Proper condensate removal protects pipework, heat exchangers, and valves.

• Reduced maintenance and downtime – Problems are identified before they escalate into failures.

• Enhanced safety – Eliminates water hammer and pressure related risks.

• Lower carbon emissions – Less wasted steam means less fuel burned.

Industry experience shows that 10–30% of steam traps are typically malfunctioning at any given time. A regular survey transforms a “set and forget” system into a monitored, optimised asset.

A recent EB Critical project in Gloucestershire highlights the difference a survey followed by swift rectification work makes: 48 failed traps, 50% of the site’s total were replaced with ARI-Armaturen UK Ltd ARI-CONA SC, delivering immediate improvements in efficiency with operational savings of up to £36,000 PER YEAR!

As mentioned above, steam boilers are only as efficient as the steam system it serves. Steam trap surveys pay for themselves quickly and continue delivering savings year after year.

If efficiency, reliability, and sustainability are a priority for your site, then steam trap surveys aren’t optional they are essential!

⚙️ Building Curiosity in Tomorrows Engineers 🔩

EB Critical's community programs have got straight back to it after the Christmas break!

This week the team haven't just been keeping clients assets running at peak performance. Some of the team have also been engaging with a local Scout Squirrel Drey, offering an insight into the engineering world!

By the end of the session, the children had;

- Gained a basic understanding of what engineering is.
- Experienced the design, build, test process firsthand.
- Developed teamwork and communication skills.
- Learned the importance of safety in engineering.

Its safe to say the team were very proud of how much the children enjoyed the activities and tasks set out for them. And as always we are looking forward to putting on many more community programs throughout 2026!

Some of the team delivered a session to the local Scout Squirrel Drey with the aim of introducing young children to the fundamental ideas behind engineering in an engaging, age appropriate, and hands on way. The session began with a simple discussion about what engineering is and where engineers can...
