We recently had the opportunity to carry out a full internal and external 3D scan of the Queen’s Theatre in Burslem using the Artec 3D Ray II as part of the IFK Legacy project.

The building is an incredible space to walk around and scan, particularly the main auditorium.

The scan data has now gone to architects in London who are using it to produce a Revit model to support the proposed renovation work on the building.

One particularly interesting part of the project is that the scan data is also being used to help plan a new acoustic setup for the main theatre space, with the hope that the venue can once again become a live music and venue in the future.

Projects like this are where large scale 3D scanning becomes genuinely useful. It is not just about creating visuals, but producing accurate real world data that can support restoration, planning and preservation of important buildings.

The Artec Ray II worked brilliantly on this project due to the scale of the building and the amount of detail we needed to capture quickly and accurately.

Really pleased to have played a small part in helping bring such an important local building one step closer to its next chapter.

When we arrived at the customer site, a competitor's scanner had already completed a small scan section, but our engineer quickly scanned the entire weaving loom in just a few minutes! 🙌

In total, we scanned and processed everything in about 30 minutes, leaving the customer thoroughly impressed! 😁 This project involved university research across 4-5 museums, digitizing artifacts with varying geometric complexities.
