Supporting the Downpatrick Community

As part of our Public Realm project in Downpatrick, being delivered on behalf of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, our Senior Contracts Engineer from John McQuillan Contracts, Philip Gillespie, was delighted to present much-needed power tools to Pepper John’s Men Shed on Church Street.

Men’s Sheds provide a welcoming space for people to come together, share skills, work on practical projects and build friendships. The donated tools will help the team continue their valuable work and support future projects.

We’re pleased to support Pepper John’s Men Shed and recognise the positive contribution it makes to the Downpatrick community.

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend the MPANI Women in Minerals Group event at Parliament Buildings.

It was a really informative and enjoyable afternoon, including a tour of Parliament Buildings, followed by lunch and an insightful Q&A with Kellie Armstrong MLA, Pam Cameron MLA and Pat Cullen MP.

A great opportunity to connect with others across the minerals industry and hear different perspectives on the issues affecting our sector.

Supervisor Essentials: Leadership, Coaching & Mentoring

On Thursday 1st October 2026 a number of our Supervisors from John McQuillan Contracts participated in the CITB Supervisor Essentials: Leadership, Coaching and Mentoring half-day session.

The session provided valuable insights into the key skills and behaviours required to be an effective supervisor, with a focus on leadership, communication, motivation, coaching and building strong working relationships on site. Our supervisors found the session very interesting, informative and practical, gaining useful knowledge and techniques that can be applied directly within the construction environment.

At McQuillan Companies , we are committed to investing in the continued development of our people. Supporting our Supervisors with the right leadership and people-management skills helps us maintain safe, productive and positive working environments across our projects.
