Visit us at Electra Mining Africa 2026 and watch a live demonstration!

Every day from 7 to 11 September at Stand P40 in the Yellow Zone, our team will be running live fall protection demonstrations.

A 100kg live drop test comparing arrest forces across a shock-absorbing lanyard, rope, and SRL.
A dropping tools demonstration where various tools fall from 10 metres so you can see the impact they make on landing.
And a live unconscious rescue demonstration covering the most practical rescue method available globally.

Reading about fall arrest forces on a spec sheet is one thing. Watching a 100kg weight drop in front of you is another.
Come and visit our stand to see and learn more.

Work at Heights Wednesday: Your certificate does not expire. Your designation might.

Think of it this way. You never have to redo Matric, but every few years you have to reapply for your driver's licence to confirm your eyesight is still adequate.

- A certificate confirms training was completed.
- A designation or licence ensures your knowledge is still current and aligned with best practice, and it carries an expiry for exactly that reason.

Confusing the two is a compliance risk that shows up on sites more often than it should.

Before booking training, confirm your provider is accredited with the correct SETA for the unit standards you need.
If they are registered with the Institute for Work at Heights (IWH), SETA registration comes with it, always ask for the accreditation letter upfront.

Work at heights training must include a practical component. Facilitators must be qualified to both train and assess, and time allocation matters.
A 2-credit unit standard typically runs 1 to 2 days, and combined programmes can take up to 3 days.

If your provider is offering it faster than that, ask questions.

Thank you to each person that is part of the Protekta Safety Gear team. Every single one of you had a hand in what we brought home from the Channel Awards.

To our team that shows up, does the work properly, and genuinely cares about what we do here. This one is for you.

Price is usually the first conversation in PPE procurement. It is rarely the most important one.

Deleane Luzzatto from REBEL Safety Gear speaks to something that comes up constantly in our industry: the tendency to make a purchasing decision based on what something costs today, without considering what it will cost over time.

A R200 boot bought three times in a year costs more than a R400 boot bought once.
And that calculation does not yet account for whether the cheaper product carries the certifications, compliance standards, and construction quality required to actually protect the person wearing it.

What goes into getting a safety product certified and tested is significant, and it is rarely reflected in the price of the lowest option on the shelf.

Most people buying on budget alone do not know what they are giving up, and that is an education gap more than a financial one.

Speak to our team before you buy. We would rather help you spend right the first time.

Congratulations to our team for winning 3 awards at the 3M Channel Awards 2026. And a special mention to Nicole Genade for winning an individual award.

Nicole Genade, Thobekani Zwane, Rene Joubert and Dylan Sutherland represented Protekta Safety Gear at the awards, but each one of these awards belongs to the entire PSG team. Thank you for your hard work, passion and dedication to keeping people safe.
It was a fantastic evening, and we feel genuinely honoured to be a 3M partner and to be recognised alongside such a strong group of companies.

Thank you to 3M for a brilliant night and to our team for the work that got us here.

Work at Heights Wednesday: Inspecting, maintaining, and correctly discarding fall protection equipment is part of the system, not an afterthought.

Every user is required under SANS 50229 to inspect their harness, lanyard, and connecting equipment before each use.

A subject matter expert also needs to carry out a formal periodic inspection, typically at 3-, 6-, or 12-month intervals depending on the site and equipment type, and both levels need to be documented.

One of the most important and most overlooked steps is reporting incidents, even when nobody was hurt.
Equipment that has arrested a fall, been dropped from height, or been exposed to chemicals can look perfectly fine on the outside and still be structurally compromised.

Reporting the incident immediately is what prevents the next person from putting that equipment on without knowing its history.

When equipment cannot be serviced or recertified, it must be physically destroyed before it is disposed of.

Products like SRLs, winches, and rescue hubs can be maintained through an authorised service centre, but anything that falls outside of that must not be left where it could be picked up and put back into use.

The equipment is only as reliable as the care that goes into maintaining it.

The right PPE should protect your team without slowing them down.

The Wonder Grip Opty WG OP-255 gives workers better grip, palm protection, wrist coverage, and all-day comfort without sacrificing fingertip dexterity.

The 3M Low Maintenance Reusable Half Mask is built for environments where dust, vapour, or chemical exposure may be present, with simple cartridge selection and easy replacement.

Both are available at our Pretoria and Edenvale branches.

Visit us in store and speak to our team about the best fit for your working environment.

r"Poor visibility on site is a risk that often gets managed informally, until it causes an incident.
Airstar changes that.

Trusted globally across construction, mining, and emergency response, it deploys in under two minutes and delivers powerful, shadow-free illumination across large areas without the glare that causes eye fatigue and blind spots.

A single unit can light up the equivalent of 4 to 24 tennis courts depending on the model selected, and the IP54-rated design holds up in rain, dust, and winds up to 100 km/h.

Available for purchase or rental. Get in touch with our team to find out which Airstar solution is right for your site.

Work at Heights Wednesday: A rescue plan is part of every work-at-height assessment. Many sites have one on paper that has never been tested.

When a worker is suspended after a fall arrest, time matters. Suspension trauma takes effect when the webbing restricts the ability to circulate blood in the body, this leads to blood pooling in the legs.

The rescue plan must be able to get a suspended worker down quickly enough to prevent that from happening.

A plan that exists only as a document does not prepare a rescue team.
The team needs to know what equipment is available, where it is stored, how to deploy it, and how to reach the suspended worker safely.

Those things are learned through practice, not policy.

Rescue drills, trained rescue teams, and appropriate descent and retrieval equipment are all components of a complete work at heights system.
