Metal with a memory? Yep, it's a real thing.

Certain metals, known as shape-memory alloys, can actually return to a predetermined shape after being bent or deformed.

One of the most well-known examples is Nitinol, a combination of nickel and titanium that responds to changes in temperature.

It's just one example of how fascinating material science can be and how much innovation is possible in the world of metalworking.

What happens in Vegas? Well, sometimes it comes back to Ohio with a few new ideas. ✈️

We recently headed to Las Vegas for FABTECH, one of the manufacturing industry's major events showcasing the latest in metal forming, fabrication, welding, and automation.

From exploring advancements in robotic welding to learning how AI is changing everything from quoting to production scheduling, there was plenty of inspiration to bring home.

One of the biggest takeaways? It's exciting to see just how much of this innovation Jones Metal is already putting into practice.

For us, staying ahead isn't about chasing every new trend. It's about staying curious, asking questions, and continually finding better ways to serve our customers and support our team.

To bend a piece of flat, rigid steel into a complex, perfect 3D shape - like a leakproof transformer enclosure - fabricators use a machine called a press brake. It exerts hundreds of tons of pressure to crease the metal with millimeter precision. If the angle is off by even a hair, the whole part won't fit together. It takes a serious mix of massive power and delicate math to make it look easy!

This is our fluid cell press. A flat aluminum blank goes over the tool, the tray slides in, and oil pressure takes over, pushing the metal down and around every contour the way a water balloon settles into whatever it’s holding. When the pressure releases, out comes a formed part up to six feet long. With two trays, one is always forming while the other is being unloaded and reloaded, so the work keeps moving.

But look at the sign on the right. Keep them flying. FOD free. Foreign object debris is anything that doesn’t belong near an aircraft, and something as small as a loose bolt or a stray rag can ground a jet. That’s why our floor stays clean, our tools stay accounted for, and every part gets treated like someone’s life depends on it. Because it does.

Whether you visit a brick and mortar branch or see the bookmobile out on the road, libraries are continuously evolving to serve changing community needs.

This November, the Coshocton County District Library levy is up for renewal. It’s not a new tax, and it helps keep the doors open, the programs running, and the bookmobile on the road. For about $12 a year on a $100,000 home, it’s one of the best investments we can make in our community. We hope you’ll vote yes on November 3!
