WATER MAIN BREAK UPDATE 9.9.26- BOIL WATER ADVISORY CONTINUES

PURCELLVILLE, Va. September 9, 2026 – Yesterday evening, a second break occurred on the main waterline coming into Town, likely weakened during the initial incident which took place the morning of September 8, 2026. The second break was mitigated, valves were adjusted, and town staff remained overnight at the water treatment plant to closely monitor tank levels.

When town staff were notified of another possible issue, an additional news alert regarding the water main break update was issued. Information regarding the update was distributed through the town’s emergency alerts system, Loudoun Alert, as well as across the Town and Purcellville Police Department’s social media platforms to include Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, and X. The electronic message boards placed throughout town continued to advertise the boil water advisory.

Repairs and Water Testing
This morning crews are working on additional repairs to the waterline. Once they are completed, town staff will flush the line and begin collecting water samples throughout the distribution system. These samples will be delivered to a certified laboratory for testing. Initial results are expected approximately 24 hours after the samples are delivered and testing begins.

Following receipt of the first set of results, a second round of water samples will be collected and tested. The boil water advisory can only be lifted after both rounds of testing confirm that the water is safe.

Due to the new testing timeline, the earliest residents can expect the boil water advisory to be lifted is Friday evening (9/11/26), or sometime Saturday (9/12/26). The Town will continue to provide updates as additional information and test results become available.

Residents & Businesses
We sincerely thank the residents and businesses for their patience and understanding as we continue to await the results of the water testing. We understand that a boil water advisory is an inconvenience, but the health and safety of our residents is our highest priority.

Until further notice, residents and businesses are asked to:
