Recently, we were honored once again to support K-State Olathe’s Essentials of Pneumatic Conveying. This two-day course included expert-led lectures, hands-on troubleshooting in Magnum Systems’ Test Lab, and food and fun with peers over local KC BBQ.
Magnum’s own Mike Abare taught the class about airlocks. To help the students visualize the mechanics and get their blood flowing, Mike had the entire class stand up and spin their arms like windmills at 15 revolutions per minute—the exact speed of a typical rotary airlock. It was a fun, effective way to bring the equipment to life and energize students during the mid-afternoon slump.
We also had a special visit from Representative Sharice Davids, who met with students to see how this technology drives manufacturing forward. She noted, “30 minutes ago, I had no idea what pneumatic conveying was — let alone that Kansas is a hotbed for it.”
Kansas remains a hub for bulk solid material handling, and we are happy to support industry education. Thanks to K-State Olathe instructors Todd Smith and Kevin Solofra, and everyone who helped make this a success. We hope to see you at the next class!
