📝Tips to Keep Your Salt Spreader Clear:
--Use #1 Free Flowing Rock Salt: This is the recommended type of salt for all Gandy salt spreaders.
--Keep the Salt Dry: Moisture is a HUGE cause of clogs. Store your ice melt in a dry location and keep it covered when not in use. Get a Rain Cap for your Gandy Drop Salt Spreader. https://gandy.net/blogs/news/rain-caps-for-spreaders.
--Slow the Flow Rate: If your spreader clogs frequently, a slower flow rate that can help prevent clumps and clogs.

🔧It happens to the best of us so here is how to fix it.

How to Unclog Your Salt Spreader:
--Turn the spreader off: If it clogs, stop the spreader immediately to prevent damage.
--Clear the hopper: Remove any remaining ice melt from the hopper and clear out clumps or debris.
--Break up any clumps: Use a tool like a small shovel or ice chipper to break up any clumps that may be stuck in the spreader.
--Test: Once everything is clear, restart the spreader and check it again, repeat the above if needed.

We know you're busy farming and don't want to deal with government paperwork to implement conservation practices but an average EQIP contract is worth $30,000!

We think that may be worth an afternoon to stop at your local NRCS office.

NRCS works one-on-one with producers to develop a conservation plan that outlines conservation practices and activities to help solve on-farm resource issues for free.

What if you already have cover crop equipment?
EQIP covers retrofits and upgrades, not just new purchases. And there are other state programs that specifically cover parts and materials to upgrade existing systems.
