The Turf Tender has a handy numbered cam gauge that you can adjust depending if you are spreading grass seed, fertilizer, or any dry free-flowing material.

The numbers are there to help you repeat the same application rate without having to guess each time. Because the gauge is attached directly to the slide, you can fine tune the application rate with precision and adjust the cam gauge so it is set in-between the marks.

The “Oat Mafia” isn’t some underground operation betting on oat seeds, though one farmer, Martin Larsen, literally went underground to track nitrate pollution in drinking water caused by decades of corn and soybean farming. The solution to nitrate pollution? Oats.

Now, 130 Midwest farmers are backing a new oat mill in Albert Lea, Minnesota, hoping to create demand for a crop that can improve soil health, reduce fertilizer runoff, and make farming more sustainable. They’re not replacing corn and soybeans, just adding oats back into the rotation.

A quiet agricultural shift is happening across the Midwest—and oats are making a comeback. 🌾

In a story from The Nature Conservancy, farmers and conservation leaders are reintroducing oat crops to diversify systems long dominated by corn and soybeans.

The article highlights how oats can improve soil health, reduce fertilizer use and nitrate runoff, strengthen climate resilience, and create new economic opportunities for farmers. Once a staple crop across the Corn Belt, oats declined sharply over the last century—but growing demand for sustainable, locally sourced food is helping drive their return.

In the heart of America’s Corn Belt, farmers are rediscovering the value of crop diversification, and oats—once a staple of regional agriculture—are positioned to make a strong comeback.
