The standard method for manufacturing precision T-slot parts is to use a CNC mill and machine them one at a time. This is great for small T-slot parts, as it’s fast and efficient.

However, for long T-slot parts like industrial chain guides, this process becomes impractical. Many CNC mills can only cut lengths of about three feet in one setup, so milling long T-slot parts can require three or four different operations.

Through trial and error, and a lot of broken tools, we found a better approach: using our routers to cut long T-slots. This approach allows us to manufacture long T-slots with a single setup. Not only does this minimize material waste and reduce the potential for rework, but it also significantly streamlines production for cost-effective results.

Machining chamfered edges may be standard practice for most shops; however, at Accurate CNC, we take a different approach for plastic and wood parts that call for a standard edge radius. We use a hand router instead of a mill. With this approach, we can often reduce the time it takes to cut a chamfered edge by up to 90% compared to stitching in a mill, ultimately achieving lower production costs for our customers.
