Myth: Your transmission has lifetime fluid, so it never needs to be changed.

Some manufacturers call the fluid lifetime, but fluid still breaks down with heat and miles. Towing, hot summers and stop-and-go traffic on Franklin roads all add wear.

Spooky sound: A ticking or knocking from the engine that gets faster as you speed up.

One of the most common causes is low oil. When the oil level drops, parts at the top of the engine do not get enough lubrication and start ticking. A deeper knocking can signal something more serious inside the engine.

Spooky sound: Your car suddenly sounds louder, with a deep rumble or a rhythmic ticking from underneath.

That usually means an exhaust leak, often from a rusted pipe, a failed gasket or a damaged muffler. Beyond the noise, an exhaust leak can let fumes, including carbon monoxide, find their way into the cabin, especially when the car is stopped.

Myth: Every brake job requires new rotors.

Rotors are the metal discs your brake pads squeeze. They wear over time, and every rotor has a minimum safe thickness. If yours are still within that spec and are not warped or deeply grooved, they may not need replacing.
