Have you ever wondered what happens when DEF gets in your fuel system? This is a fuel filter from a 6.7 Cummins that unfortunately had a run in with some DEF in the fuel. The crystallization took place and grew after it was exposed to fresh air. As you can imagine you do NOT want this contaminating your fuel system. Hopefully you never find yourself in this situation, but if you do we are the one stop shop to get you back on the road!

TECH TIP TUESDAY

This weeks edition of Tech Tip Tuesday comes courtesy of Paul. Paul has only been with us at Down Home for a few months but brings with him over 20+ years of experience in the automotive industry.

Paul’s Tip:
“Your truck runs best on the right type of fuel, we all have busy days and mistakes happen, take an extra second to make sure you’re grabbing the diesel pump. Putting gasoline or even DEF in your fuel tank can cause serious damage to your fuel system, and catching that mistake early on can make a world of difference. If you do end up with something other than diesel in your tank you can mitigate the situation by not running the truck or even turning the key on and having it towed to us or your nearest qualified shop ASAP”

I’ve heard the question a million times, “Should I just buy a new truck?????”

Neh!!!! Let’s just keep the stuff from the good ole days on the road. Got Cooper taking care of my personal truck getting some top end engine work done with a few other goodies.

When it’s all said and done this truck will be back on the road better than ever and ready for the towing adventures ahead. While everyone else is busy trying to get their flux capacitor module to update, we’ll be headin to the gulf.

TECH TIP TUESDAY

This week’s Tech Tip comes from Wyatt. Wyatt has been with the team at Down Home since April of last year and brought with him a decade of experience which includes being Senior Master certified through Ford Motor Company. Wyatt is a key member of our team and chances are good if you have a Ford in our shop, Wyatt is going to be the one using his expertise to get it back on the road!

Wyatt’s tip:
Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance! Wyatt tells us: “there’s no such thing as too much maintenance, the key to longevity especially when it comes to diesel motors is keeping up with your maintenance services. Oil changes are the big one. 5,000 mile intervals are a good place to stick to on oil changes, even if running full synthetic, manufacturers will say 7500-10000 but 5000 is a good insurance policy. Same goes for fuel filters, the general rule is every 15000 or every third oil change, every other oil change can’t hurt especially with the modern fuel and fuel systems. No such thing as too much maintenance!”

Coopers tip: “Take care of those maintenance items like fluids and batteries before they become an issue in the winter time, batteries are one thing that if they’re on their way out or getting up there in age, the cold weather will be that nail in the coffin”

Most people don’t know their belt looks like this. This is one of the most common overlooked maintenance items on trucks.

At a first glance most belts look fine but when you look harder aging belts start showing signs of cracking and deterioration that lead to broken belts and your truck on the side of the road.

Diesel trucks are known for going 300,000 mile plus but not without proper maintenance. Don’t let small things cause major problems.
