⭐ Project Highlights

From battery energy storage to utility-scale solar, Verdantas is helping advance critical energy infrastructure through integrated engineering solutions. ⚡

Our Power team recently supported two projects in California that reflect the range of our capabilities across transmission, substations, and renewable energy systems. One project focused on the design of a 230 kV generation tie line supporting a battery energy storage system, while the other encompassed engineering for a utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage project, including a gen-tie, substation, and collection systems.

Each project brought its own set of challenges, from constrained alignments and seismic considerations to complex interconnection requirements and evolving design needs. Through coordinated electrical, structural, civil, and geotechnical engineering, our team delivered practical solutions that supported reliability, constructability, and long-term performance.

We’re proud to highlight the work of our Power team in delivering solutions that support a more resilient and connected energy future.

Verdantas is heading to Fort Worth, Texas for the Battelle Chlorinated Conference, May 31–June 4.

Recognized as a premier gathering for environmental professionals, Battelle brings together experts advancing innovative approaches to characterize, monitor, and manage some of the most complex contaminated sites. We’re proud to be part of those important conversations.

Verdantas staff will be presenting throughout the week, with contributions from Michael Bock, Andrew Ashton, Zack Smith, and Bennett Drane. Their sessions will cover PFAS forensics, groundwater impacts from biosolids, and practical frameworks for managing emerging contaminant risk.

We’re looking forward to connecting with peers and sharing insights that help move the industry forward!

🌊🌱 How do you determine where conservation actions will have the greatest impact across a watershed?

Verdantas is partnering with The Nature Conservancy on an ecosystem enhancement planning effort for the Green River Watershed, focused on improving aquatic habitats in the lower Green River while reducing pollutant loads to downstream waters.

This work reflects Verdantas’ Stormwatershed 360 approach, which integrates watershed-scale modeling, floodplain ecology, and water quality analysis to support smarter, more targeted conservation planning.

📊 Using USGS SPARROW model, our team analyzed nutrient loads across HUC‑8 and HUC‑12 subwatersheds to identify where agricultural Best Management Practices can deliver the greatest benefit.

🦆 In parallel, we applied Verdantas’ in‑house Ecological Floodplain Inundation Potential (EcoFIP) methodology across more than 190 miles of the lower Green River. This analysis helped identify and rank floodplain restoration opportunities that support waterfowl, shorebirds, and wetland ecosystems, while advancing conceptual designs for two high‑value sites.

Together, this integrated planning effort supports a focused, data‑driven framework to prioritize conservation actions, enhance ecosystem function, and improve water quality across the lower Green River.

Taking a moment this Memorial Day to pause and remember.

Amid the long weekend and time with family and friends, we honor those who gave their lives in service to our country and the freedoms we’re able to enjoy because of them.

At Verdantas, we’re committed to building a better world—one defined by courage, community, and care. Today, we remember and thank the heroes who helped make that possible.

Wishing everyone a safe, meaningful, and reflective Memorial Day. 💙❤️🤍

As Memorial Day approaches, we honor the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

It is also a time to reflect on how we continue to support those who serve, both during and after their military careers. At Verdantas, that commitment is taking shape through our partnership with the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program, which helps transitioning service members gain hands-on experience and build pathways into civilian careers.

We are proud to support veterans as they transition, strengthen our workforce with highly skilled talent, and live our values as a people-focused, purpose-driven company.

Verdantas is excited to share that our first SkillBridge hire will be joining Verdantas this July, an important milestone and just the beginning of what we hope will be a growing pipeline of veteran talent across our organization.

We remain committed to expanding this effort and creating opportunities for those who continue to serve.

As communities face increasing flood risk, extreme precipitation, and increasing stress on critical infrastructure, planning for climate resilience has become more urgent and increasingly complex.

Verdantas partners with communities, utilities, and organizations to turn climate risk into clear, actionable adaptation strategies. Our work is grounded in science, shaped by local context, and focused on decisions that can realistically move from planning to implementation.

Our climate adaptation work is also recognized through inclusion in the Registry of Adaptation Practitioners, a vetted directory highlighting qualified adaptation expertise.

If you’re beginning or advancing conversations around resilience and adaptation, and you would like to optimize the return on necessary investments, please reach out to us.

📸 Inside the flume at Verdantas Flow Labs

Radmantis Inc. is conducting proof‑of‑concept laboratory flume testing at the Verdantas Flow Labs Alden Campus, with our team evaluating this selective fish passage technology to support the hydropower industry.

Using hands‑on flume testing and live fish, this work examines how robotic imaging, machine‑learning inference, and control mechanisms could be integrated into fishway structures such as ladders, lifts, culverts, and bypass systems. Testing focuses on assessing the potential to identify fish by species and inform selective passage routing decisions under controlled hydraulic conditions.

Applied laboratory research like this helps bridge innovation and implementation, allowing emerging technologies to be tested, refined, and better understood before potential field deployment.

The project is funded through the Hydropower Testing Network (HyTN) Program, a partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy Water Power Technologies Office, the DOE Office of Technology Commercialization, and EnergyWerx.

When façade or roof conditions are in question, uncertainty can lead to safety risks, unplanned downtime, and costly surprises. ⚠️

Using drone imagery and 3D laser scanning, our team captured a comprehensive exterior dataset at an active facility, giving engineers a clear and accurate view of existing conditions without disrupting operations. The resulting digital models and façade and roof deviation maps translate complex conditions into actionable insights.

In these images, each color represents how far the surface deviates from an established reference plane, or where the wall or roof is expected to be under ideal conditions. As the color shifts, it indicates changes in distance from those ideal conditions. These models help teams quickly identify areas that are out of tolerance. This solution often picks up deviations not observed by the naked eye and identifies early safety concerns before becoming severe.

That visibility allows teams to quantify deviation, isolate problem areas, and make informed decisions about repair scope, sequencing, and risk. 🔎

🌍 Today is Endangered Species Day, a reminder of the importance of conserving habitats and protecting vulnerable species that play a critical role in healthy ecosystems. At Verdantas, our work supports these efforts through applied research, monitoring, and innovative, science-based solutions that help species and ecosystems thrive. Take a look at just some of the beautiful endangered and threatened species our team has had the opportunity to support.

As part of this year’s observance, we’re highlighting our work in action through the Mosaic Florida Scrub‑Jay Monitoring Project and its publication in Manatee County, Florida. The Verdantas team, including Lauren Deaner, Tyler Buckley, and Katie Serba, collaborates with Dr. Raoul Boughton to advance understanding of demographic and genetic recovery in small populations. This work underscores the critical role long‑term monitoring plays in supporting species sustainability.
