As we move into the second quarter of the 21st century, we are excited to spotlight the next generation of leaders at MEI. Our future is being shaped by engineers, designers, and professionals who are advancing their skill sets, building meaningful relationships, and supporting our clients and communities across Texas.

As MEI continues to grow, we will showcase these rising contributors and share their stories. Today, we spotlight Mason Elliott from our Georgetown team.

How would you describe your role at MEI to someone outside the company?

"I do field work for a company that designs overhead and underground power lines. Sometimes that means collecting data on existing power infrastructure or hammering stakes that represent where new poles are going to go."

What has working at MEI taught you that has helped shape your career?

"Everything has a process, and everyone has a part to play in that process. Over the past 2 years at McCord, I’ve gotten pretty good at my step of the process, but I’m always trying to learn the other parts from the people who do it. Understanding each piece of the puzzle gives me a greater understanding of the work I do and how it helps the company overall."

What is one key lesson you’ve learned in your role that you apply every day?

"Never stop learning new things. The amount of knowledge at McCord cannot be overstated. Each one of my coworkers is like another textbook just waiting to be read. Whether it’s a specific piece of hardware on a pole I’ve never seen before or a new program I’ve never used before, someone almost always has the answer I’m looking for. After a while, I’ve built up enough knowledge for myself to do more than just field work."

🤝 MEI Gives Back 🤝

A few weeks ago, MEI had the privilege of hosting a Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center blood drive right here at our College Station headquarters! From our founding, giving back to the communities we serve has been a core part of who we are at MEI, and we are so proud of our team members who "rolled up their sleeves" to contribute.

A single donation can save up to three lives, and we are grateful for partners who are willing to connect our team with opportunities to make a difference. We hope to see you next year, but in the meantime, visit giveblood.org to find a drive near you!

How would you describe your role at MEI to someone outside the company?

"I would tell someone outside the company that my role at MEI is an HR Recruiter. I get to be involved in a little bit of everything, which keeps things interesting since no two days are ever the same! I plan internal company events, attend conferences and career fairs, and support the recruiting and onboarding of new employees."

What has working at MEI taught you that has helped shape your career?

"MEI has been the perfect place to start my career, and I truly couldn’t imagine a better company for a young professional. Working here has given me a strong foundation, and I’ve been so fortunate to learn from amazing leaders and coworkers who have not only taught me but also guided me through the early stages of my career. It has been such a supportive environment that has helped me grow and continue shaping the professional I want to become."

What is one key lesson you’ve learned in your role that you apply every day?

"One key lesson I’ve learned in my role, and apply daily, is to take things “one day at a time.” With constantly evolving responsibilities, I’ve learned to stay open-minded and approach each new task with a positive attitude and an enthusiastic yes! I truly enjoy the fast pace and the opportunity to keep learning, and I’m excited to continue growing and developing through every experience MEI has to offer."

🚧 Field Friday walking the Fence-line 🚧

For those who grew up and cut their teeth in the industry, they know it well. Walking a fence-line, trying to complete the day's field work and beat the sunset. This is our Field Service Technician's reality every day, doing the critical ground-level work that drives accurate and efficient project delivery.

We believe the work in the field is just as important as the work behind a screen, and it couldn't happen without our FSTs serving as our eyes and ears in the field!

"I just go to work and do it quietly."

Recently, Mr. McCord was honored by KBTX with their inaugural Spirit of Service Award. Today, we are proud of our founder, Mr. McCord, and the legacy he has left on Bryan-College Station, youth agriculture, and MEI.

For over 40 years, Mr. McCord has quietly impacted both the 4-H and FFA programs and has been integral in establishing the Brazos County Expo Complex. It is no surprise that he brings that same humble, committed, dedicated attitude into his career. Working excellently, regardless of recognition. His spirit is baked into the foundation of MEI, and we are grateful for his example and for this well-deserved recognition.

Longtime community leader recognized for shaping agricultural education, supporting youth programs, and helping bring a year-round hub to Aggieland.

How would you describe your role at MEI to someone outside the company?

"I work as an Engineering Technician where I help design and support electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring everything will work correctly before it gets built."

What has working at MEI taught you that has helped shape your career?

"MEI has taught me how to approach real-world problems and think through solutions in a practical aspect. It’s also helped me get better at working with teams and adapting to different types of clients/projects."

What is one key lesson you’ve learned in your role that you apply every day?

"One big lesson is that small details really matter, and catching them early in a project can save a lot of time and problems later on."
