VA Maine Su***de Prevention Program will participate in Gun Storage Check Week June 1-5
The inaugural observance convened by NSSF® —The Firearm Industry Trade Association—to encourage gun owners and their families to check on their firearm storage practices and do their part to prevent unwanted access.

In 2023, fi****ms were involved in 73.3% of Veteran deaths by su***de. Secure firearm storage is a method of lethal means safety, which can decrease risk of su***de by increasing the amount of time and space between someone in a suicidal crisis and lethal means.

Su***de prevention will have informational tables with firearm safety and su***de prevention resources, including free gun cable locks, at the following locations:
• Togus: Lobby of Building 200 June 1st and 4th from 9am-12pm
• Lewiston CBOC June 1st from 10:30-2pm
• Bangor CBOC June 1st from 8:30-10am and June 4th from 11:30am-1pm
• Portland CBOC June 4th from 10am-2pm
