New Hmong would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the individuals and organizations who generously sponsored tickets for our elders to attend Lee Lue The Musical, a production inspired by the experiences of the Hmong people during the Secret War in Laos and a history marked by war, sacrifice, loss, displacement, survival, and incredible resilience.
For many of the elders we serve, this is not simply a story from history.
Many experienced the war firsthand. They survived it, escaped it, left behind everything they knew, and eventually rebuilt their lives here in America from the ground up, all with the hope of giving their children and future generations a safer and better life.
For some of our elders, it was their first time seeing a musical, sitting in a theater, then seeing pieces of their lived experiences represented on stage was deeply emotional. They shared that parts of the musical were triggering, bringing back painful memories, but that the experience was also healing. Through their reflections, one message stood out: despite everything they endured,
At NEW HMong, our work with elders goes beyond providing programs and services. It is about supporting their overall well-being, creating meaningful connections, preserving their stories, and reminding them that
We want our elders to look at the generations who came after them and know that their sacrifices mattered. Their strength and resilience helped make the lives we have today possible. The opportunities we have, the communities we are building, and the ability to preserve and share our stories are part of the legacy they created.

This experience holds an additional special connection for our NEW Hmong family. Our Community Program Coordinator, Rasami Moua portrays Jou's Mom in the production, while her son, Kyu San Juan, portrays Lee Lue's student and child soldier.
None of this would have been possible without those who stepped forward to help our elders experience this important production.
