Alaska demands more from a loading system - and from the team designing it.

S&S Technical designed this custom enclosed skid package now in production to support diesel and methanol truck loading operations in Alaska, integrating pumping, metering, and controls inside a modified 40-foot shipping container.

The package also includes a partitioned office and warming area, giving operators a dedicated space sheltered from the conditions outside. With an ambient design range reaching −50°F, equipment selection, layout, heating, and maintenance access all matter.

Specified components include:
• Kontro centrifugal pumps with 50 HP motors
• Endress+Hauser Coriolis meters and process instrumentation
• Guidant AccuLoad IV loading controls and flow control valves
• Dixon hose handlers for truck connections
• Chromalox heating for the process equipment area

Asphalt Transloading - Built to Move More Than Product

Hot asphalt is not an easy product to transload. Maintaining temperature, moving a high-viscosity product reliably, providing safe railcar access, and keeping the entire operation mobile requires more than assembling components on a trailer.

S&S Technical asphalt transloaders bring the complete system together in one engineered package.

At the heart of this system is a 6-inch BearCat pump, integrated with heated process piping required for asphalt service. The designs shown are rated for temperatures up to 400°F.

On the railcar side, we paired the process system with a 4-inch Dixon traced/insulated top loading arm with arm lock. An overfill probe is integrated directly into the loading-arm assembly for another layer of operational protection.

And because the equipment is only part of the system, S&S integrates the entire package:

The Right Access Solution Starts With Your Operation.

We start by evaluating how your site actually runs. That means your vehicle configurations: tank trucks, railcars or both, the range of deck and hatch heights you load at, and whether the fleet is mixed. It means your hatch positions: where the hatches sit on each vehicle, how many there are and how far apart. It means your frequency of use: how often each position is worked, from a few loads a week to continuous shifts. And it means your loading requirements: the loading arms and connections the operator has to reach, the product being handled and how consistently vehicles spot at the bay.

That evaluation tells us whether a fixed rack, a pedestal, an elevating platform or a portable unit is the right answer, and how the access should fit with the rest of your loading system. Eliminating the Need for Nitrogen in Propane & Butane Railcar Unloading

S&S Technical was asked to develop a complete system to eliminate the need for N₂ to pressure up railcars during pump-assisted unloading of a multi-car propane and butane rail rack.

The solution uses a compressor package, v***rizer package and duplex pump skid to create the v***r pressure required for railcar unloading to cavern storage or ships.

The new equipment included:

• Duplex compressor skid with BLACKMER® NGH100 6" x 6" compressors and 75 HP motors
• Dual-fuel v***rizer package
• Duplex pump skid to feed liquid propane/butane from cavern storage to the v***rizer
• Switch rack with VFDs
• Automated valves, pipe spools and controls
• Controls integration and programming
• Startup and commissioning

S&S also provided the engineering required to integrate the new system into the existing facility, including a pipe bridge extension connecting process, utility, communications, cable trays and fire lines serving the rail rack.

Our scope also included foundation design for the equipment and pipe bridge with PE-stamped calculations, electrical design, an arc-flash study and development of the permitting package, including SOWs, PFDs, P&IDs and GAs.
