Back Forty Land Surveying & Mapping is excited to announce our brand-new Surveyor Ride-Along Experience™ for anyone who has ever wondered why a full boundary survey costs more than $200 and cannot be completed by tomorrow afternoon.
Your adventure may include:
🌳 Carrying thousands of dollars worth of equipment through knee (sometimes shoulder) high grass, brush, mud, creeks, ditches, and terrain that apparently hasn’t seen another human being since Oklahoma became a state.
🕷️ Picking ticks off yourself at the end of the day and wondering which of the approximately 47 diseases you’ve just been exposed to. (Number of diseases may be exaggerated. Number of ticks is not.)
Digging for buried corners in ground with the consistency of concrete. Winter brings more of a steal like consistency.
🛣️ BONUS ROUND: Discovering that the monument you need is buried in or beside an actual asphalt road and realizing somebody has to get it out.
🧱 Carrying equipment all day that gets approximately 10 pounds heavier every 20 minutes. The weight also increases with each degree above 90.
🌵 Meeting briars, barbed wire, poison ivy, snakes, angry dogs, questionable fences, and vegetation specifically designed by the devil to remove skin from a land surveyor.
📐 Walking a mile-long fence line because someone would like the entire thing staked while also hoping to pay the same price as a mortgage inspection.

Participants will also get the opportunity to watch the magical moment when “just a few stakes” turns into courthouse research, deed interpretation, record searching, calculations, field reconnaissance, locating evidence, measuring, resolving discrepancies, setting monuments, drafting, checking, and finally producing the paperwork everyone thought appeared automatically when we hammered the stake into the ground.
And for our Express Package, call us today and say:
“Hey! I need a survey.”
Then, approximately 15 minutes later:
“How soon can you get out here?”
Followed by:
“Two weeks?! I really need it in two days.”
We’ll let you ride along with the guys who are already completing the surveys ordered by the people who called before you. 🤠
✨All jokes aside, we know surveying can be expensive. We know deadlines can be stressful. And we know that from the outside, sometimes it really does look like somebody showed up, walked around for a while, and put a few stakes in the ground.✨
But there is a whole lot of education, research, liability, equipment, physical labor, calculation, experience, and occasionally blood, sweat, ticks and profanity behind those stakes. 😂
