Okra Solar

Okra Solar Okra is an IoT technology solution that enables solar generating communities to share, store and uti But until now, power hasn’t been cheap.

For the vast majority of the 760Million people living off-grid, access to reliable electricity brings about a whole new world of opportunities and experiences. Okra is a plug & play hardware + software solution that allows smart pay-as-you-go microgrids to be created by connecting existing off the shelf solar panels and batteries. Okra mesh-grid design allows for grids to start small, with more pa

nels and batteries able to be added to the grid to increase capacity as demand increases. Remote monitoring keeps grid operators informed so they can eliminate blackouts, adapt to variations in demand and identify exactly where and when the grid needs scaling. Each household is metered and charged using mobile payments, meaning families without bank accounts can easily access affordable power, for the first time.

We landed at EAIF 2026 with three missions: give people a real, tactile experience of mesh-grids at the main conference, launch a financing product the industry was waiting for, and pan-African regulators into one room to draft mesh-grid policy.

All three landed.

Huge thanks to Abba Aliyu and the REA Nigeria team for championing the regulatory blueprint, to Caroline Nijland and the GET.invest team for moderating the roundtable, to CrossBoundary Access for the investor lens, to ARE for another great conference and to our partners at Energise Africa for joining us in launching our new joint crowdfunded financing product.

3 missions, one great week! Stay tuned for the outcomes.

Every last-mile deployment comes with its own unique challenges. Obe-Nla was no different. 🌊

Situated along the coastline, traditional grid infrastructure was never a realistic option for a community like this one. Built on waterlogged land, where saltwater corrodes metal, damages concrete and the population is too small to make a mini-grid viable for developers, mesh-grids are the only solution that makes sense. And for a fishing community that needs freezers to preserve their catch, reliable electricity is a lifeline.

And that's exactly what the Ashdam Solar and Okra Solar teams came to deliver. ⚡

After three days of tireless work, Samuel, Ashdam Solar's project manager on the ground, described the experience as both exhausting and deeply rewarding, with real, meaningful progress made every step of the way.

And when you hear from the community itself, you understand why. Lorgo, a fisherman in Obe-Nla, called it a miracle: electricity in his home for the first time, light where there was none before. 💡

This is what bringing Power to the People really looks like.

We're looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Porto team. This is very serious business. 🇵🇹⚡

This is a 6-month IEFP internship, so if you're eligible for IEFP programs and ready to get hands-on, keep reading.

You'll be working alongside our engineering team on the hardware that powers many last-mile communities around the world: running tests, building schematics, monitoring our Mesh-Grid systems, and making sure everything we ship meets the bar. You'll build, test, improve and grow in the process. 🔋

We're looking for someone with a background in Electrical Engineering or a related field, a sharp eye for detail, and the curiosity to keep learning every day.

650 million people still live without electricity. The work we do here matters, and so will yours. 🌍

Ready to jump in? Apply via the link below and come help us bring Power to the People: https://www.okrasolar.com/careers/electrical-engineer-intern

Happy Earth Day! 🌍 And yesterday, we celebrated World Creativity and Innovation Day. For us, the two have always gone hand in hand.

Bringing clean energy to last-mile communities takes relentless creativity and innovation. Every mesh-grid we deploy is the result of our team pushing the boundaries of what's possible: engineering solutions that work with the environment instead of against it. 🌱

Our technology is proof that powering people and protecting the planet aren't opposing goals. When done right, they are aligned. Let's keep building a future where both people and the planet can thrive! ⚡

What does it take to bring power to a last-mile community?

Sometimes, it means 2 days of travel and crossing a river with all of our equipment. 🚗🛶

Our team made the full journey to Obe-Nla, a coastal community only reachable by river. Here’s how it went down:
1️⃣ Flight from Abuja to Idan
2️⃣ Equipment pickup in Ibadan
3️⃣ A 6-hour drive to Ondo
4️⃣ A river crossing at Igbo-Nla

Not every community is easy to reach, and that’s exactly why why mesh-grids shine. Why? Find out in our next video.

In the end, as Esther stated, the long journey is always worth it when you see what electricity means to people’s lives. This is what drives us to work hard every day to bring power to the people. 💡

Every quarter, our leadership team gets together to align on what's next. This week, that meant 2 days in Porto celebrating last quarter's wins and mapping out the main goals and key projects we need to accomplish in Q2. 📍

Big priorities. Bigger plans.

And since we had gathered many people in Porto who usually work remotely, we made the most of it: snacks, party games, and the kind of time together that reminds you why the team matters.

Q2, we're ready for you. Are you ready for us? ⚡

The start of a new year brings new energy, and new faces. 🌱 We're so excited to welcome three incredible people who are joining us on our mission. Meet our new Okranauts! 👇

Diana Ferreira joins the Porto team 🇵🇹 as our People & Operations Administrator: equal parts organised and empathetic, with a background in tourism research, quality, and admin. Ask her about her latest DIY project. 🎨

Ridwan Fohunola brings 5+ years of corporate finance and capital raising to our Project Finance team in Abuja. 📊 He's here to unlock the financing that helps last-mile communities own their energy future, and in his spare time, he's deep in Nigerian history books.

Jaymin Patel is our new Embedded Engineer on the Porto team! ⚡️ He's the person making sure the code behind our devices actually works, motivated by what electricity means to the people receiving it. Probably also the most active person in the office. 🏏

Welcome aboard to all! Let's bring power to the people together. 🔋

At Okra, flexibility is how we take care of our people. 🌍

For many on our team, work has meant building a life far from home. Being able to occasionally work remotely and take meaningful time off makes it possible to travel back to their countries, be present for family, and stay connected to what matters most.

Because when people feel supported and balanced, they bring more focus, energy, and heart into everything they do.

At Okra, flexibility and balance are part of how we work, grow, and make an impact. 💚
