Did you know that studying a building’s past is the first step to securing its future?

At Paço de Maiorca, an 18th-century Baroque palace near Figueira da Foz, NCREP was responsible for its structural survey and seismic vulnerability assessment. The upcoming project phases include structural reinforcement and the control of water infiltration and groundwater levels.

Sabia que estudar o passado de um edifício é o primeiro passo para garantir o seu futuro?

No Paço de Maiorca, um palácio barroco do século XVIII perto da Figueira da Foz, o NCREP teve a cargo a sua inspeção e diagnóstico estrutural assim como a avaliação da vulnerabilidade sísmica do edifício. Built in 1768, this church is a living testament to centuries of history and local identity. Preserving it means not only preserving its memory, but also shaping the future.

As part of this structural intervention project, the NCREP team carried out a rigorous characterisation and assessment of the conservation state of the building’s roof structure.

Through detailed visual inspection, survey openings, and non-destructive testing, we characterised the existing structure without compromising its integrity.

Construída em 1768, esta igreja é um testemunho vivo de séculos de história e identidade local. Preservá-la é, não só manter a sua memória, mas também projetar o futuro.

No âmbito deste projeto de reabilitação estrutural, a equipa NCREP realizou uma caracterização e avaliação rigorosa do estado de conservação da estrutura da cobertura do edifício.

NCREP recently carried out the Structural Survey and Investigation work for the O Leão de Arroios School, in Lisbon, for Lisboa SRU.

This work enabled a detailed technical characterisation of the existing structure, constituting an essential step for the development of the subsequent project phases.

Studies of this nature are fundamental to support informed technical decisions, reduce uncertainties, and guide structural intervention solutions that are safe, efficient, and tailored to the specific characteristics of the existing building stock.

Investing in the future of Engineering is investing in the future of the country.

NCREP joins yet again the Order of Engineers of the Northern Region and the other partner entities in an initiative we believe can truly make a difference: the Master’s Merit Scholarships, aimed at 50 students of Master’s degrees in Engineering from public institutions in the Northern Region.

More than financial support, these scholarships are a recognition of talent and an incentive for excellence, promoting the appreciation and professional progression of those who are building the next generation of engineers.

NCREP was born in academia and has never lost that essence.

We believe that better intervention in the built heritage begins long before construction work: it begins with knowledge.

That is why we develop specialised training in structural rehabilitation and strengthening, with a regular presence at the Order of Engineers and the Order of Architects for engineers, architects and technicians who work with existing buildings, whether ordinary or historic.

Topics such as seismic vulnerability, rehabilitation of masonry, timber, reinforced concrete and seismic strengthening of historic buildings are part of our training programme.

Because knowledge only creates real impact when it is shared.
