A facility walkthrough was conducted by the team of safety engineers at the Ministry of Works, Dakkada Secretariat, Uyo.

The exercise provided an opportunity for on-site assessment of workplace conditions, identification of potential hazards, and evaluation of existing safety measures.

During the walkthrough, the team carefully reviewed critical areas including access routes, emergency exits, housekeeping standards, equipment usage, and overall compliance with safety regulations. Observations were made on both physical and psychosocial factors that could impact worker safety and performance.

The exercise also encouraged interactive engagement with personnel on ground, promoting awareness and reinforcing safe work practices. Key observations and recommendations from the walkthrough are expected to support continuous improvement in safety standards and risk management within the facility.

He was encouraged to provide strong leadership support in fostering a work environment that prioritizes mental well-being, open communication, and employee engagement. Emphasis was placed on integrating psychosocial safety into existing policies and practices within the ministry to drive a more holistic and sustainable safety culture.

Today, 28th April, is World Safety Day at Work.

WORLD SAFETY DAY IS NOT FOR SAFETY OFFICERS ALONE.

If only HSE understands the theme, then the message has failed.

Every year, World Safety Day comes, and too often, only safety officers truly engage with the message while everyone else simply sees it as another date on the calendar.

But this year’s ILO theme on Psychosocial Risks affects everyone — HR, Admin, Operations, Management, Supervisors, and every worker.
