On behalf of the Executive, fellows, members and spouses of The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikot Abasi Branch, I congratulate Engr. Uwem Stephen Okoko, FNSE and Managing Director of HENSEK Integrated Services Limited on the successful construction and commissioning of the Ring Road III in Uyo.
The road is an engineering master piece, built with the strictest engineering standards. The 9.5KM road with its underground drainage also act as a dredged basin to carry all water from Ifa timber market area and empty into the Julius Berger canal. It is also equipped with service dots at every 500M and a 1.5M span median.
We are proud that our branch has produced such an erudite engineer and we celebrate with you and the Government of Akwa Ibom State on this milestone.
We thank Akwa Ibom State Government for the confidence reposed on indigenous engineers.
Once again, we say congratulations!

THE PRESIDENT, NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS (NSE) INSPECTS THE COLLAPSED FOUR STOREY BUILDING IN UYO

Engr Uwem Akpan (MNSE) - Chairman, NSE, Uyo Branch led The National President of NSE. Engr. Tasiu Wudil FNSE, accompanied by some Council Members and other Senior Engineers in Akwa Ibom State to the collapsed four-storey building under construction located at Iman street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State for an on the spot assessment.

As directed by the President, The Uyo Branch Chairman Inaugurated the Preventive, Investigation and Failure Analysis Committee (PIFAC) to commence work immediately.

Accordingly, the terms of reference for the committee are as follows:

i. Carry out preliminary investigation to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the structural failure of the building.

ii. Determine whether the relevant building regulations as well as the building code and Government approvals were adequately complied with.

iii. Examine the roles played by person(s) involved in the project from the design stage to the construction stage to identify those found culpable.

iv. Make adequate recommendations to the Society and Government.

Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, holds the COREN Engineering Assembly as a yearly event.

The annual Engineering Assembly continues to be the biggest gathering of Engineering Practitioners, Engineering Firms and Stakeholders in Nigeria.
