Following Men’s Mental Health Week (8–14 June), we were pleased to welcome The Lighthouse Charity to our Bridgend College site on Monday to deliver their Make It Visible talk, highlighting the importance of mental health and wellbeing, particularly within the construction industry.

The session provided valuable insights into the importance of looking after our mental, physical and financial wellbeing. It encouraged open conversations, raised awareness of the support available and reinforced how taking care of all aspects of wellbeing can have a positive impact both in the workplace and in everyday life.

The event was very well attended, with 65 site staff and 10 apprentices taking part in the presentation. Their engagement demonstrated the importance of continuing conversations around wellbeing across our industry.

We are always proud to host and support initiatives such as this, especially as we have been supporting the Lighthouse Charity for over five years. Their work continues to make a real difference across the sector by raising awareness, breaking down stigma and ensuring that support is available to those who need it most.

A huge thank you to the Lighthouse Charity team for delivering such an engaging, informative and important presentation. We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting their vital work in promoting wellbeing throughout the construction industry.

A week ago today one of our first-year electrical apprentices, Henry Langford, was named Apprentice of the Year at the recent On-Site Awards ceremony, where he received the accolade from the Bristol Lord Mayor.

We are extremely proud of this achievement and of how far Henry has come in his first year with the Whitehead team.

Ben Nash our Operations Director for Bristol (pictured in the second photo below with Henry at the awards ceremony), said:

"Henry has shown a real natural ability, a willingness to learn, and an excellent work ethic, making him a thoroughly deserving recipient of this award. We are incredibly proud of Henry's achievement and look forward to seeing what the future holds for him as he continues his journey towards becoming a qualified electrician."

Congratulations, Henry. This recognition is thoroughly deserved and we are excited to see all that you accomplish in the future with Whitehead.

We are recruiting – join our Team!

We’re looking to grow our BIM (Building Information Modelling) team at Whitehead Building Services with a motivated Junior BIM Technician based in Newport.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to start or transition into a career in BIM and digital construction, gaining hands-on experience on live MEP projects while learning from an experienced team.

You’ll be involved in:
• Supporting 3D model creation and coordination
• Producing 2D drawings from BIM models
• Assisting with clash detection and project coordination
• Working alongside project teams across real construction projects

Who we’re looking for:

This is an entry-level opportunity, so prior CAD/BIM experience isn’t essential what matters most is being computer literate, eager to learn and having a real interest in MEP and construction.

This is very much a learning-focused position, where you’ll be working closely with the BIM team to develop your skills day-to-day.

The role is primarily office-based at our head office in Newport, although there may be opportunities to gain experience on live project sites when required.

We welcome applications from graduates or anyone looking to transition into a career in BIM.

If you’re interested (or know someone who might be), send your current CV to: [email protected]

This opportunity will close on Sunday 28th June. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and actively encourage those from underrepresented communities to apply.

On 30th May 2026, one of our very own, Hywel, partnered with Willmott Dixon to take on the incredible challenge of climbing Pen y Fan 10 times in a single day to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The challenge took the team an astonishing 18 hours to complete, demonstrating remarkable determination, resilience and teamwork throughout. We are extremely proud of every single person involved in this fantastic achievement.

Cancer Research UK is an outstanding charity dedicated to saving lives through world-class research, helping to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. The charity also provides vital information and support to people affected by cancer and their families across the UK. Every donation helps fund groundbreaking research and brings us closer to a world where more people survive cancer.

Congratulations to Hywel and everyone who took part in this inspiring fundraising effort. Your hard work, commitment and support for such an important cause are truly commendable.

One of the projects we are particularly proud to be working on is the Bridgend College Town Centre Campus, overseen by Hywel Morton. This exciting development commenced in September 2025 under the management of Willmott Dixon and continues to make excellent progress on site.

As part of our commitment to innovation and sustainability, we are currently utilising Whitecroft Lighting's GEO Pack system in place of traditional packaging. Materials are being delivered and distributed efficiently across the project, with each load-out allocated to its designated zone to support a structured and well-organised installation process. The below photos highlight the rollout, with every crate clearly labelled and supplied with a luminaire schedule to support smooth site operations.

The GEO Pack system brings several key benefits to the project:

• Reduced waste – Minimises excess cardboard and single-use packaging, helping to create a cleaner and more sustainable site.

• Zone-based efficiency – Luminaires are pre-packaged by area, ensuring materials arrive exactly where they are needed.

• Faster installation – Reduced handling, improved organisation, and clear labelling help streamline installation activities.

• Improved tracking – Smart tracking systems provide greater visibility of materials and support effective site coordination.

• Reusable system – Durable tote boxes are designed for multiple uses, reducing environmental impact and supporting circular construction practices.

• Cost-effective – Lower waste management costs and enhanced logistics contribute to overall project savings.

This is just one of the many innovations helping to make the Bridgend College Town Centre Campus a standout project. We look forward to sharing further updates as the project continues to progress.

Today is World Environment Day, a global reminder of the importance of protecting and preserving our environment for future generations.

Alongside the practical steps we take to improve our environmental impact such as providing staff with reusable water bottles, reducing waste wherever possible and continually looking for more sustainable ways of working we also want to highlight our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility through maintaining our ISO 14001 certification.

ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). It provides a framework for organisations to identify, manage, monitor and continually improve their environmental performance, while ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation and regulations.

Maintaining this certification reflects our dedication to reducing our environmental footprint and driving continual improvement. On World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the environment and making a positive difference through both our everyday actions and our long-term environmental goals.
