FREE CPD – IGEM/UP/1B UPDATE

We’ll look at what’s changed, permissible pressure drops, perceptible movement and what the updated requirements mean for engineers working on site.

Gas engineers — a reminder for 1 October.

IGEM/UP/1B Edition 4 takes effect tomorrow, replacing Edition 3 for tightness testing and direct purging of installations within its scope.

A few key points to remember:

• Permissible pressure loss with existing appliances connected is based on installation volume and gas type.

• Any perceptible pressure loss must be investigated. Isolate the appliances and retest to confirm the pipework and meter are gas tight.

• If it isn’t reasonably practicable to isolate all appliances, no perceptible movement is required.

• Before purging, calculate the installation volume and determine the purge volume using PV = 1.5 × IV.
