Why does my new Thwaites dumper feel less powerful than my old one?
Same Yanmar 3TNV88 engine? Not quite!
Changes to Euro Stage V emissions regulations meant newer Thwaites 3-tonne dumpers use a de-rated Yanmar 3TNV88-BWWA at 18.1kW, compared with the older, more powerful 3TNV88-XWA2.

The result? Around 25% less power, plus the difference between hydrostatic and traditional gearbox transmission.
So if your new dumper doesn’t have the same ‘grunt’ — you’re not imagining it!

We’re pleased to announce the delivery of two brand-new Thwaites dumpers to Guernsey in the Channel Islands, supplied to two valued customers, the machines being a 1 ton skip loader and the other a 3 ton swivel tip.

The first machine has gone to Mark at C P Hire, a very good and longstanding customer who continues to put his trust in Thwaites. We’re particularly grateful for Mark’s repeat business and ongoing support. It’s always rewarding to see customers returning to us for their next machine, and we look forward to continuing to support C P Hire with quality equipment and service for many years to come.

The second new Thwaites dumper has been delivered to Greenacres Property Limited. We’re delighted to welcome Greenacres Property Limited as a customer and are confident the new dumper will prove a reliable and productive addition to their operations.

Both machines have now made the journey across to Guernsey and are ready to get to work. Deliveries such as these highlight the strong reputation Thwaites dumpers have built for durability, reliability and performance in demanding working environments.

A big thank you to both C P Hire and Greenacres Property Limited for choosing Thwaites. We wish them many successful hours of work with their new dumpers and look forward to supporting them in the future.

Another Volvo joins the fleet!

We’re delighted to have recently delivered a brand-new Volvo ECR58F to Peter Tulk Construction, based in Somerset.

Pete has been a valued Volvo customer since purchasing an ECR58D — the previous-generation model — back in 2019. Fast forward to today, and the new ECR58F becomes the latest addition to his growing fleet, joining an ECR88D already hard at work.

Having put the Volvo machines through their paces, Pete has been impressed with their reliability, performance and serious power, making Volvo a proven choice for his business.

It’s fantastic to see the latest generation ECR58F continuing that relationship and heading straight to work in Somerset. We’re sure it will prove to be another dependable and productive addition to the fleet.

The end of an era for Barford dumpers?

Back in March 2010, Wordsworth Holdings Ltd entered administration, bringing Barford dumper production in Grantham to an end.

For a machine manufacturer that could trace its roots back to Aveling Barford in 1937—and at one point was the 3rd largest dumper producer in the world—it was a pretty unremarkable ending.

For the last 16 years, PES has continued supporting Barford dumpers, becoming the go-to source for parts for the SX and SXR ranges. At our peak, we stocked more than 1,000 Barford-related line items.

Today? We're down to fewer than 50.

As the surviving machine population continues to shrink, so does the availability of dedicated Barford parts. We're no longer able to justify stocking many items when suppliers require minimum orders of 100+ pieces for parts we might only sell once or twice a month.

So, after 16 years, it looks like it's time to say goodbye to the Barford part of our claim as the UK's largest supplier of Thwaites, Terex, Terex/JCB, Mecalac and Barford dumper parts.

But there's more to the story—including what happened when PES visited the Grantham factory after the administration and why we decided not to buy the remaining parts stock.
