Uncontrolled haemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of preventable death following traumatic injury.

In the pre-hospital environment, definitive surgical bleeding control is not available. Rapid haemorrhage control is — and that relies on equipment being accessible, compact, and deployable under pressure.

SpeedM is listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG entry 472226) as a Class IIa device for heavily bleeding traumatic wounds.

Its mechanism of action is based on Halloysite Nano Tubes (HNT), a mineral compound applied to a cellulose nonwoven via precision printing. The HNT structure concentrates platelets through electrostatic attraction, supporting the body's natural clotting response. The reaction is non-exothermic, contains no animal proteins, no human proteins, and no shellfish derivatives.

Supplied in a vacuum-sealed Z-fold format (7.5cm x 370cm) designed for rapid application. No refrigeration required.

Available through Midmed. Confirm current availability with your sales consultant.

Patient handling does not stop once a pelvic binder is applied.

Trauma patients may require multiple transfers across care environments, making controlled movement and transfer planning an important part of the pathway.

The Binder Lift and Binder Transfer Sheet are designed to support safer lateral transfer and repositioning during ongoing care.

Pelvic haemorrhage is one of the most time-critical challenges in major trauma.

Early pelvic binding is widely recognised as an important pre-hospital intervention for suspected unstable pelvic injury, helping support stabilisation before definitive care.

Correct placement and reliable equipment matter, especially in high-pressure environments.

This week on the Midmed blog, we look at:
• Pelvic haemorrhage control
• Why binder positioning matters
• Challenges during patient transfer and handover
• Equipment considerations for trauma pathways

When pre-hospital equipment fails, there is no second chance.

The CombiCarrier II has a long track record — Hartwell's product material notes many original units still in service after 18 years, and Midmed has had zero product returns. A scoop stretcher and backboard used for extrication, rated to 205 kg (450 lbs), with four restraint straps for patient securement.

That kind of track record matters when equipment reliability is a clinical question, not just a procurement one.

Physical patient transfers remain a leading cause of musculoskeletal harm in Australian hospital wards — and it’s not a new problem.

Safe Work Australia repeatedly ranks healthcare as the top sector for body-stress injury claims, with lateral transfers a major contributor.

For Nurse Unit Managers and WHS leads, the question isn’t whether this is a hazard but whether current controls are reasonably practicable under the WHS Act.

Where do ward practices fall short?

We’ve outlined three common scenarios and what actually works in each: https://buff.ly/WKCZeYJ

A practical pre-hospital patient handling solution, and it's in stock at Midmed.
The Patient Mover Sheet is designed for pre-hospital and emergency patient movement. Reinforced handles, bariatric capacity, and no retraining required. Works in the environments ambulance and paramedic crews actually operate in.
