Had a ripper day out at one of our customers' yards in Melbourne last week, watching their Kobelco fleet in action on the car dismantling game.

They've got a good spread running, from an old faithful SK135D right through to their newest addition, the SK140SRD-7. Watching these machines work is something else. They're absolutely flat out all day, tearing panels off, crushing shells and shifting scrap, and you can see it in their battle scars. Paint's worn back to bare steel in spots, guarding's dented to buggery, but they just keep grinding away.

These would have to be some of the hardest working machines in the whole Kobelco range. No easy days on a dismantling site, and this customer's gear proves it can cop a hiding and still turn up for work.

The latest SK140SRD-7 is purpose built for the job, not just a standard excavator with a grab bolted on. Operating weight sits around 20.5 tonnes, it's running the Isuzu engine putting out 78.5kW, and it's got a beefed up boom and arm with reinforced plating specifically for demolition work. Reach is just under 10 metres so it can work a decent sized yard without having to reposition every five minutes.

Big thanks to the crew for having us out and letting us get amongst it. Always good to see the gear earning its keep in the real world, not just on a spec sheet.

Steep slopes, uneven terrain, and hard-to-reach areas? These are the conditions where the RCU120 shows its full potential.

Paired with the FAE UML/RCU forestry mulcher, featuring Sonic calibration technology, it enables effective operation even in wooded areas with particularly dense vegetation.

A little while ago, we had the pleasure of handing over one of the biggest diggers in our lineup to MM Plumbing… if you squint. 😉

All jokes aside, the Kobelco SK17SR-6 might be compact, but it punches well above its weight when it comes to value. Until the end of August, you can jump on one from just $33,500 + GST.

It’s a firm favourite with plumbers and contractors looking to make the move into earthmoving, and it’s easy to see why. Handy size, plenty of grunt and perfect for those tight access jobs the bigger mobs don’t feel like quoting on, but that can pay off a mini digger like this in no time.

What we love most, though, is seeing these machines introduce new customers to Kobelco and to Melbourne Tractors. A blue digger, a bloody good machine and a dealer who does things a little differently. Sounds like a pretty solid combo to us.

Keen to find out more? Drop us a DM. We’d be more than happy to have a yarn and get you into a blue digger.
