Carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) are two of the most dangerous gases encountered during fires and combustion events 🔥

Often referred to as the ‘toxic twins’, these gases pose serious risks to firefighters, emergency responders and industrial workers operating in hazardous environments.

For firefighters, emergency responders and industrial workers, fast and reliable gas detection can make all the difference when working in hazardous environments.

In our blog, we take a closer look at the dangers of CO and HCN exposure, where these gases are commonly encountered and why proper monitoring is so important. We also explore how the ARA-X4 multi gas detector helps keep teams protected with reliable, real-time detection in tough working conditions.

Gas Leak Detector - Panther and Panther Pro....

Locate small gas leaks around switchgear, tubing, gas cylinders, MRI scanners, turbines and vessels where a variety of tracer, production or cooling gas is used (Not suitable for Hydrogen detection in plumbing applications)

Hydrogen
Helium
SF6
Argon
Nitrogen
and many more (view the sensitivity chart on a separate post or at the link below. All listed gases are selectable on the Panther and detectable)

https://www.impactinstruments.co.za/images/Brochures/Panther_Sensitivity_Chart_V1.0_07.2023_CMP.pdf

Choose the gas you need to trace
Choose low, medium or high sensitivity - (start on high sensitivity and drop it down to low, when a leak is found, to pinpoint. Gross to fine as a rule)
Choose unit of measure

When the leak is located the Panther will alarm, vibrate and the lights will illuminate.

Are you still using Colorimetric Kits or Turbidimetric Analyzers to perform soil testing on site?

There is an easier, recognised method -

Using a handheld PID such as the Tiger XTL to sample the air inside a tedlar bag, containing your soil sample, ensures fast (>2 seconds), accurate readings in ppm. Data logged readings are downloadable into the free ION Software for report generation. Data is locked and cannot be modified ensuring credibility at all times.

"We don't know where our cables run but we have a vast area to check on the mine, can you help with something?"

We certainly can if :

1.The cables are "live" .....then easy

YouTube : https://youtu.be/wxAfszzER6Q?si=b-emdSODpOD9L5xD

2.The cables are "dead" / de-energised / not pulling Amps....definitely, as long as there is an access point to the cables somewhere.

"How does the transmitter work?"

1.The transmitter's output power will determine the distance that the signal can be transmitted.

20W : 3km
120W : 10km

2."Dead" / de-energised / cables not pulling Amps, require signal to be induced from the transmitter into the cable / s in order for tracing with the receiver to take place.

YouTube : https://youtu.be/YPXoM32HnfM?si=azucatfo76A_mPLm

Method one : connecting the red croc clamp to the cable and the black croc clamp to the grounding rod 90° from the transmitter.
This method is recommended when there are multiple cables in the area that will cause the signal to bounce.

Method two : indirect cable induction with transmitter box.

Youtube : https://youtu.be/6sjgDiV2Mgo?si=O1Jq4gOMfNtkg34h

Method three : indirect cable induction with the IEM sensor.

Youtube : https://youtu.be/6MYFiybH16M?si=5y-FrI3BIOo2ZNIz

Method four : indirect cable induction with a current clamp (Optional extra)

We hope that this was post was enlightening.

Semapi have launched the 8 Channel Vibration Analyser "Logger Evolution"

Based on a new hardware platform that supports up to 8 acceleration channels, 24-bit resolution and features a 7" colour touchscreen interface.
It incorporates new tools for detecting bearing faults at very low speeds, analysis according to ISO 20816, 14694, and IEC 60034 standards and a new bump test algorithm with force hammer for detecting natural frequencies, amongst other features.

Existing customers using the Pocket VibPro and DSP Logger Expert platforms can easily integrate the Logger Evolution without losing data, compatibility or configurations.

Time was spent on site today, training on the ATP434N Acoustic Water Leak Detector and "Live" Cable Locator.

Effective water leak location is achieved by -

*Know where the pipe is lying and mark it
accordingly.
*Minimum water pressure needs to be 2Bar.
*Maximum tracing depth is 3m.
*Filter out the frequencies that are not water
leaks.
*Save your measured points for referencing b
back.

Effective cable location is achieved by -

*Ensuring 50Hz frequency is selected.
*Use the MAX method for quick cable tracing.
*Use the MIN method for precise cable tracing
once MAX method has been used.
*Use 45° setting to determine cable depth.
Maximum depth of "live" cable tracing is 6m.
