When it comes to protecting your building, experience and expertise matter.

In this video, Trent shares why understanding roofing and waterproofing systems is about far more
than simply applying a product. Every building has unique requirements, and choosing the right
materials and solutions requires both technical knowledge and practical experience.
Without a proper understanding of how these systems work together, property owners can face
recurring leaks, costly repairs, and even structural damage over time.

At RPA, we believe in doing the job correctly from the start. By combining industry experience with
technical expertise, we help our clients avoid unnecessary costs and ensure long-lasting protection
for their properties.

Roofing Myth vs Reality

One of the biggest misconceptions in the roofing industry is that painting your roof will waterproof
it.

The reality? Roof paint is primarily for aesthetics and protection against weathering—it is not a
waterproofing solution.

Most roofing systems, whether tile, metal, or slate, are designed to shed water through overlapping
components that work together as a system. Simply applying paint won't stop leaks, and in some
cases, focusing on paint instead of addressing the real issue can lead to bigger problems down the
line.

If your roof is leaking, the solution is identifying the source of the problem and applying the correct
repair or waterproofing system—not simply adding another coat of paint.
Before spending money on a quick fix, get expert advice and make sure you're investing in a solution
that will actually protect your property.

In this video, our foreman and waterproofing specialist, Brian, demonstrates the critical seam preparation process when installing EPDM rubber waterproofing systems.

Every surface is thoroughly cleaned using EPDM cleaner to remove dirt, oils, and contaminants that could affect adhesion. Once the surface is perfectly prepared, EPDM primer is applied to ensure maximum bonding before the seam tape is installed with precision. It's this attention to detail that creates a durable, watertight seal designed to stand the test of time. When it comes to waterproofing, shortcuts aren't an option. Trust the team that gets it right the first time.

RPA Q&A Series – “Trent… just one thing?”

This might have been one of the biggest laughs we’ve had on set with Trent.

The question was simple: “What is one thing homeowners don’t realise about roofs or
waterproofing?''

Simple enough… or so we thought.

Trent took one look at the question and just ran with it — and kept going. And going. And going.
Before we knew it, what was meant to be a short answer turned into a full breakdown of everything
homeowners often overlook when it comes to waterproofing and roof performance.
Even on set, you could see it — the passion behind it. Not just talking for the sake of it, but because
there is genuinely so much that goes into doing this work properly.
And yes… we all had a good laugh at how much he had to say (and he knows it too).

But beyond the humour, it’s a reminder of something important: every project teaches something
new. That knowledge doesn’t stay on one site — it gets carried forward, refined, and applied to the
next job.

At RPA, it’s never “just another project”. Each one is different, each one matters, and the standard
keeps getting pushed higher.
That’s what makes the difference — and that’s why RPA goes the distance.

RPA Roofing, Painting & Advanced Waterproofing – experience you can trust, results that last.

RPA Renovation Series

In this episode of our RPA Renovation Series, things take a slightly unexpected turn and we all had a good laugh on set.

But behind the humour is a real conversation about renovation work and the realities that come
with it. At RPA, these moments often reflect how passionate the team is — because every detail, every decision, and every problem-solving moment matters on site.

It’s not just about finishing a project. It’s about getting it right, understanding the challenges, and
making sure the end result actually performs the way it should.

More from this renovation series coming soon — where real questions get real answers (and
sometimes a bit of unexpected honesty from Trent).

Hidden Damage, Visible Solutions

This project in Heatherlands, George, highlights exactly what often goes unseen in roofing systems
- hidden water ingress that only reveals itself once damage has already started internally.

Bryon walks us through a critical issue on this roof: a long crack running through the structure where
water was actively entering and travelling into the valley area. From there, it was being directed into
unwanted spaces, creating internal damage that eventually became visible inside the home.
Because a rubber coating had previously been applied, water was not properly redirected. Instead, it
became trapped at the junction between the slab and the wall, eventually seeping through into the
kitchen area and leaving clear signs of moisture damage.

The repair approach focuses on precision — lifting and extending a section of membrane, correctly
overlapping and integrating it with the tile edge for proper protection, and then encapsulating only
the necessary area. Not everything needs to be redone — it’s about identifying the exact failure
point and resolving it correctly.

This is what real waterproofing work looks like: not just treating symptoms, but tracing the problem
back to its source and fixing it properly.

No Shortcuts. No Guesswork. Just Proper Waterproofing

This project highlights exactly what RPA is about — going beyond surface-level fixes and getting to
the real cause of the problem.

The team is once again showing what true expertise looks like on site. It’s not about quick patchwork
or temporary solutions — it’s about investigation, persistence, and making sure every hidden
waterproofing issue is uncovered and properly resolved.

Water damage is rarely as simple as it looks. That’s why the team won’t stop at what’s visible — they
trace it back, open it up where needed, and make sure the actual source of the failure is dealt with
correctly.
No issue is too complex, and no detail is ignored. That’s the difference between covering a
problem… and solving it.

RPA Roofing, Painting & Advanced Waterproofing – we don’t stop at the surface.

Protection Without Compromise

A truly stunning Belvidere home in Knysna with one of the most incredible views — but also a
powerful reminder that even the most beautiful house cannot perform if it isn’t properly watertight.
This reel highlights what often goes unseen: behind the architecture, finishes, and design,
waterproofing is what protects the entire structure. In this case, there were clear waterproofing
challenges that needed attention — reinforcing just how critical it is to get the basics right.
A home like this is only as strong as its protection against water ingress.

Without it, even the most impressive build can face serious long-term issues.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about how a home looks… it’s about how well it lasts.
Got a property that needs proper protection, let’s make it watertight from the start.

RPA Renovation Q&A Series – Sianne Roux

In this edition of our Q&A series, we chat with Sianne Roux, co-owner of RPA, about a renovation
project that was especially close to her heart — a flatlet transformation she managed from start to
finish alongside the RPA team.

This project is a great example of what can be achieved on a realistic budget when the focus is
placed on the right priorities. It wasn’t just about creating a visually appealing space, but about
building something that is practical, durable, and properly resolved before the finishes even begin.
When asked what people often overlook in a renovation like this — whether it’s floors, walls,
lighting, or something unexpected — Sianne highlights something far more important:
waterproofing and damp control.

Before any final finishes are considered, underlying issues like moisture ingress need to be properly
identified and resolved. As she points out, painting or finishing over damp problems only hides them
temporarily — it never fixes them. Getting this stage right is what ensures the renovation lasts and
performs as it should over time.

This flatlet project is a strong reminder that successful renovations are built from the inside out.
What you don’t see is just as important as what you do.
A proud transformation by RPA, and a perfect example of smart, well-planned renovation work.
