From Dirt to Data...

Ingram Engineering Services, Inc. (IES) proudly operates a fully accredited soils and materials testing laboratory at our West Chester, Pennsylvania facility.

The IES lab holds accreditation through the AASHTO Accreditation Program, enabling us to conduct a comprehensive range of laboratory tests in compliance with stringent ASTM and AASHTO standard procedures.

We provide an extensive selection of laboratory testing services that can be executed independently or as part of their field sampling/testing, special inspections, construction oversight, and geotechnical engineering offerings.

If you have the need for testing, with a fast turnaround for your projects, please contact us!

Every day, Ingram Engineering's Project Managers and Field Technicians are on active job sites, working alongside contractors, builders, and developers to help keep projects moving forward.

From soil investigations and compaction testing to construction materials testing and special inspections, our field teams play an important role in verifying that work meets engineering specifications and project requirements.

Being on-site matters. It allows us to identify potential issues early, communicate directly with construction teams, and provide timely solutions that help prevent costly delays.

At Ingram Engineering Services, we combine hands-on field experience with technical engineering expertise to support residential and commercial construction projects throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

More Than Just a Hole in the Ground!

Before a residential development can take shape, it's important to understand what's happening beneath the surface.

A Test Pit may look like a simple hole in the ground, but it provides valuable insight into soil conditions, groundwater levels, and subsurface materials that can directly impact foundation design, site preparation, and construction costs.

Identifying potential issues early helps developers, engineers, and builders make informed decisions, avoid costly surprises, and keep projects moving forward.

At Ingram Engineering Services, our Geotechnical Engineering team works with residential builders and land developers throughout Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, providing the field investigations, laboratory testing, and engineering expertise needed to build with confidence.

Because a successful development starts with understanding what's below the surface.

Our own Senior PM Mike MacCall making sure soil is fit for building in New Jersey. Test pits and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing help engineers evaluate subsurface soil conditions before construction begins. Test pits provide a direct look at soil layers, existing fill, groundwater conditions, and potential unsuitable materials. DCP testing measures soil pe*******on resistance, helping engineers assess relative soil strength and consistency.

Together, these methods provide valuable information for determining foundation suitability, identifying potential settlement concerns, and recommending necessary soil improvements. Early testing helps reduce construction surprises, avoid costly remediation, and ensure structures are built on a stable foundation.

Building the Ideal Project Team

An undeveloped plot can evolve into a neighborhood, medical office, warehouse, retail center, apartment complex, or storage facility in just a few years.

Creating this vision involves more than construction. Landowners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors must collaborate to determine what can be built and how.

At Ingram Engineering Services, we approach projects from multiple angles, contributing to large residential developments in PA and NJ, commercial projects in Philadelphia and at the airport, storage facilities in Baltimore, coastal structures in Delaware, and a resort project in the Caribbean.

All these projects share a vital commonality: effective site and structure harmony.

So who handles what?

Connecting Site Design with Subsurface Conditions

When planning a new neighborhood, commercial building, warehouse, or other developments, it all begins as a concept on paper. Property boundaries are defined, and the layout of roads, buildings, utilities, and stormwater systems starts to form. Grading is evaluated, elevations are set, and ultimately, a comprehensive site plan takes shape.

However, an essential question arises during this process:

What lies beneath the site, and can it adequately support the planned structures above?

This is where the collaboration between Civil Engineers and Geotechnical Engineers becomes crucial. Moreover, gaining insight into subsurface conditions early on can significantly influence the overall cost of property development and construction.

Weather, Soil, and Your Structure: When Changing Conditions Require a Closer Look

Heavy rain. Extended dry periods. High winds. Coastal storms. Rapid changes between wet and dry conditions.

Weather has always affected the built environment. As property owners and builders experience changing weather patterns and significant storm events, it is worth understanding a simple engineering principle:

Your home or building doesn't exist independently of the environment around it.

The structure, foundation, soils, groundwater, drainage, and surrounding property all interact. When conditions change, the performance of one can affect the others.

At Ingram Engineering Services, we help homeowners, builders, property managers, architects, and developers throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland evaluate those conditions and determine when an engineering solution may be necessary.

Engineering for Private Homeowners - Residential Structural & Geotechnical Engineering

Homeowners don’t usually keep engineers on speed dial, but when something doesn’t look right, a renovation gets complicated, or a contractor or municipality asks for an engineering evaluation, knowing who to call can make a big difference.

At Ingram Engineering Services, we provide economical, responsive structural and geotechnical engineering services for private homeowners throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland.

Sometimes the need is straightforward. Other times, a homeowner simply knows something is wrong and needs an experienced engineer to help determine what is happening and what to do next.

Complexity Simplified.
Ingram Engineering strives to apply the simplest solution to what might seem like the most complex problem. Why double down on variables? We find solutions that fit the problem, even if they are surrounded by complexity like a job Chadd Ingram took in the Caribbean. This saves time, money, and provides our valuable clients with an easier path forward, even if implementing requires scarce island resources, barges, tight working spaces, and high value property. But if we can make it happen in the middle of an ocean, we can make it happen in PA, NJ, MD, and DE.
